oh shanvi!
i did not see this thread before , im feeling bad about the death of mehdi hassan saab , im a very fond of ghazals and i liked jagjit singh , mehdi hassan and ghulam ali . first we lost jagjit singh ji and now mehdi saab.my most favourite ghazal of him is rafta rafta.
yesterday i was watching a old video of jagjit singh ji , its not a ghazal but is called tappe in punjabi. and there one link was for chitthi na koi sandesh , and i just clicked and saw the video , it had old pictures of jagjit ji and chitra ji and one very rare pic of their son , it just brought tears in my eyes and today now i come to know about mehdi saab 's death.
may his soul rest in peace.

even i would like to dedicate this to my beloved half and once i gave him a cd with my fav ghazals and it also had my most fav song na yeh chaand joga na tare rahenge .this ghazal was the first one and then i realised it was a bad idea , he is very bad in hindi and urdu was not his cup of tea and i spent 2 hrs to explain him the meanings of the lyrics and in the end got very angry that u dont know this much hindi too ?????
and the lessons in urdu are still going on :rotfl:bonk

On that note, dh asks me the whole meaning of the ghazal or song.. and then he keeps on playing the same to the extent just hearing the notes makes me miss him and also brings on a smile..(he works away from home..)

Absolutely love Ghazals...esp in Urdu...it just doesnt get anymore romantic than that !
I was first introduced to them in a formal way by my class mate who was a lucknawi He was in hostel with the rest of us and hopelessly in love and would write these beautiful poems for his jaan and in the process share it with us.
Ghalib is just amazing....Sigh...another one of my khwahishen.....wish some one can translate the difficult parts of his shayari!
