Now city People enjoy the life in Gated communities and say with pride they have a wonderful lifestyle. There they have swimming pools,Play grounds,Parks,Gym,community hall,in door games, walkers path and a super market . Elders enjoy having friends of their own age to discuss about upto date news and politics and women sharing their memories about joint family system and compare with today's nuclear family system.children have lot of friends to play games ,attending yoga class, music class and so many chances to learn new skills.A mass celebration goes on all festivals ,competitions held on Independence day ,Republic day and Children's day .One more to add Mils and Dils gossiping and i wonder why no complaints about Fil versus Dils. This is the life style of people in Gated communities.Builders advertise this type of living as a Modern trend and we accept their views. This is not true because we had Gated communities a decade ago .

Here comes the description of the Gated communities where our Parents and Grand parents lived. They lived in a village/Town which had all ammunities .It was surrounded by Trees, Fields,Lakes,Temples was place was surrounded byTrees,Fields,Lakes,Temples Trees,Fields and vacant land.Lake is the natural swimming pool where we learnt swimming and had competitions with friends and this was a good physical exercise for all.No need to go for an ice cream parlour or coffee shops to have a good time with Girl friends.Early morning young girls go to lakes to take bath in Fresh water and the lake bund is the park for the young pairs.Big banyan tree at the out skirts is the community hall and also the judicial court and the vacant land is the open Gym with fresh air. There was No monthly maintenance charge but annually money collected for the village development and for the Poojas done in the Temples

Every house has a big courtyard in the front and two Thinnais (a small platform) on both the sides of the entrance door which is the in door stadium for women who played the traditional games such as Pallanguli, ( Pallankuzhi is played by dropping seeds into pits ), (Thaayam (Dice game)and aadu-puli.In the front court yard girls played Pandi(hop scotch game).

Pallanguzhi and Thayam are related to mind and Pandi hop scotch is related to our body .By playing these games women had Mental and Physical exercise.Annual Thiruvizha at the Temple is a mass celebration and also a get together of relatives.Even Marriages are fixed during this time as the Girl and the Boy have a casual chat .No formal meetings of both the families and no tension in the bride's side.

Our ancestors are lucky to live in such a healthy Gated community .I am also lucky as i have enjoyed a little of the old Gated community.
    Have a Nice day

Life was peaceful in the old "gated" communities. Hardly any crimes and everyone knew the other. But nowadays these communities have been necessitatedby increasing insecurity caused by breakdown of law and order. But that does not really provide you much security. Because nowadays everyone lives such a cocooned existence that they don't know their next door neighbours. So in case of emergency there is no guarantee that help would come. It is everybody for himself/herself.

Very nice snippet, Amma! The gated communities these days are formed to artificially mimic the original ones we had in the past. As @Balajee said, they are also formed promising safety and security. But, IMHO, it neither fulfills any of those. Still there are many who live in a gated community and dont know their neighbour. May be, it helps the elders who dont get their working son/daughter's time and the children who neither get enough of their parent's time nor will have playmates otherwise!

This reminds me of a joke I have read during the early demonetization days -
A man standing in an ATM queue greets the one standing before him in the queue, "Hello sir, enna theriyalaya.. I am Srinivasan! Unga pakka flat la iruken.. Epdi irukinga? Pona varusham flood vandhappo paathadhu! Ippo dhan meet panrom.."
