I want to know what are the best fabrics to sew Anarkali for a beginner? I think it is cotton only. There are different patterns for Anarkali...so what is the best pattern for a beginner to start with?

I have sewn many cotton dresses and other household things like pillow covers but want to try on Anarkali now.

    Experts, please advice.

    :thankyou2:

    Hi Anu,

I too have the same question. In my opinion, I think you will need 4 to 4.5 m minimum for umbrella cutting for the frock part and full sleeve half meter for the bodice.

I found this following video very useful as the tutorial is at optimum pace for beginner for anarkali. It is only part 1 from there on follow the other parts. In this video he is using the whole saree with some cloth remaining for a frock or skirt. From this only I ascertained the required cloth for anarkali. I am yet to see other parts of the video. Hope it helps

Hi Pl. don't try with cotton material like bed spread or curtain. saree will be too thin you will not able to get perfect finish

    good luck

Suman, georgette saree will not do?

I saw one of our ilites did with black georgette saree...I just loved that one.

But i am scared to cut and stitch it since this material gathers easily while stitching.....same with silk i think.
