    hi friends ..
ok now u know tat there are two articles...definite and indefinite ..a and an comes under undefinite and The comes under definite article...
Now todays continuation..i wil explain the meaning of each and every word in tamil..so tat u can understand the meaning rit..
    Use of 'An'
    1. Before words beginning with vowel sounds{a,e,i,o,u are called vowels, other are consonants}

eg..an apple, an egg, an owl.(owl means kazhuku or anthai in tamil)

2.Before words beginning with silent 'h'.

eg..an hour, an hounourable man, an heir , an honest man

    (honourable means மேன்மையுள்ள,மேன்மை தங்கிய)
    (heir means சொத்துக்கு சட்டப்படி உரிமை உள்ளவர், வாரிசு)
    (honest means நேர்மையான, யோக்கியமான)

3.F,H,L,M,N,R,S,X are letters that are not vowels but begin with vowl sound 'M' has the sound of 'em'. So, 'an ' is used before abbreviations beginning with vowels of these letters.

    eg. an M.L.A , an R.A.F, an N.C.C officer, an F.I.R., an X-ray , an H.E. school , an S.P.

    Let me explain the abbreviation
M.L.A - Member of the Legislative Assembly
    R.A.F- Royal Air Force
    N.C.C- National Cadet Corps
    F.I.R- First Information(Investigation) Report.
    H.E- Higher Education
    S.P.-Superendent of Police

In next sessionwe will study the use of 'A'..see u

English grammar and simple spoken english for beginners-3

Hi friends hope you all are enjoying studying the hints of learning english...
Now we can see the use of the article 'A'

    1. In the sense of one
eg. He couldn't speak a word to save himself.

with 'one' (since 'one' begins with sound of 'w')
    eg..a one-man show
    a one-rupee note
In those we think we may use the article 'An' because in 'one' o is a vowel..
But tats not correct since one sound with w (wone)
so we use the article 'A' here ok

    Hi
Now we can continue the usage of 'A'
1st point is already given in thread 3.
2.Before words beginning with consonant sound.
    eg
    a boy
    a box
    a dog

3.With vowel letters having consonant value.
    e.g.
    a university
    a unique article
    a euphemism
    a unit
    a European language
    :idontgetit:
    In this examples
we say 'university' with a 'y' sound at the beginning as though it were spelt as'youniversity' ....so 'a' university is right ..got it:yes::yes:
same for all the above words.
euphemism means தகுதிச் சொல்வழக்கு in tamil... i dont know the exact meaning i got it from the website Euphemism in Tamil, Dictionary English Tamil
    ok keep on reading:)
