Myth : Iron supplement to treat anemia Fact : combination of Ragi, black sesame seeds + Gur , dates did work in getting those Hb numbers up
Couldn't finish my thought yesterday. Jury is still out on this whole glycemic index thing and I pretty much ignore it and instead focus on shifting to whole /less processed grains /foods in general.
Hey, It all depends on your routine. The best routine which will help you to lean bulk up your body. Eat healthy fat like ghee etc Avoid complex carbs like wheat, bread, pasta etc. Go for multigrain Have at least one cheat day but make sure you don't overeat. Gym along with cardio. Don't just rely on cardio. Spot reduction is a myth.
Bumping this thread. Read a few diet and nutrition related stories that I wanted to bring up for discussion.
I read this book “Good Calorie, Bad Calorie” and was convinced that refined carbs are bad. But then I kept wondering if Idli and Dosa made of white rice is also bad? But now I read articles that fermented food products are actually good and that a craze has started around that. In that case is Idli and Dosa vindicated from the low carb hit list?
This is quite a dilemma for me too. I haven't found any definitive answer. I see pros and cons. Idlis are low in calories, they have high bioavailability of B vitamins, are fermented and even though the cooking process is not ideal for the live cultures, some of the probiotic goodness is retained even after steaming. The con is that it is a quick digesting carbohydrate and causes blood sugar spikes. I think that is why the traditional pairing with the coconut chutney and/or sambar came to be. The fat in the coconut and proteins in the sambar balance out the nutritional profile of the meal. In moderation and as part of a balanced meal seems to be the safe prescription that applies to anything and everything.
