Ravi welcomed Sugumar to his own office and told him to feel relaxed. Ravi had his own business and was thriving successfully. He wanted to extend, so spoke to his like-minded friends to see whether they could invest some money as the idea he had in mind was big. He also asked for any reliable person to take care of his main office while he would be away, concentrating upon building his business elsewhere. One of his friends sent Sugumar, who was from a poor background, but his grandfather was known to be a rich and benevolent person.

Sugumar was too shy in the beginning and spoke only when really necessary. But he had that characteristic smile which seemed to give an effect of seeing a flower bloom to Ravi, as it spread from his lips to outward. "You have a lovely smile!", Ravi said to Sugumar. Within two years, Sugumar was Ravi's right hand and managed things really well. Ravi opened two other offices elsewhere and 24 hours at times was not enough for him. He was so thankful to Sugumar and increased his salary by double. He also arranged Sugumar's marriage and took the expenses as his, though Sugumar raised an objection.

The next year turned out to be so dark as Ravi faced losses in his business. Somehow his competitor outsmarted him every time and he himself was not able to meet the deadlines committed earlier due to internal issues which cropped up all of a sudden. By the time he took the remedial measures, it was too late and he had to forego all his assets and even his business. He asked Sugumar to come with him, but Sugumar refused. It was only later that Ravi came to know. Sugumar joined his competitor's firm and it was he who was responsible for Ravi's downfall.

Ravi didn't believe it, but as soon devastated to find it true. He went to Sugumar's home, but then Sugumar's wife had delivered just. He saw the new infant boy and gifted his chain, leaving without saying anything else other than wishing her. Years later, Ravi came back to a state, which was far lesser than where he had been, but managed to have a decent lifestyle. He went to attend a charity function and it was there he saw Sugumar again, holding a boy. Sugumar was in an expensive suit with gold glittering all over. The boy looked lovely and when he smiled, he looked more beautiful.

Only that his smile turned to a hysterical laugh and it never stopped though he was forced to a car.

Sad! remembered an old saying "pethavaga paavam pillaiya cherum" (something along the line).

Though Sugumar's smile was lovely, he had a bad heart. His son too has a beautiful smile, but.... poor thing!! It is unfair that the lil one is being punished for his dad's sins, but then life never promised to be fair.

Makes me wonder why ravi did not inquire why a rich and benevolent grandfather let his grandson be poor. If he had, maybe he could have avoided sugumar.

Also, makes me wonder what ravi wished in his heart while gifting the chain to the baby!! Sugumar was glittering in gold and had a handicapped child, and even after years, ravi though stabilized was not prospering as before... hmmm I wonder... I wonder!!

    Good one rgs!!

Ravi could not think bad at all Akila. Sugumar being different from his grandfather, is quite a common thing. Qualities differ even between a father and son, right. Only that he was paid back many a time harder, through a different way. Ravi didn't do anything there too. Thanks for your feedback. -rgs
