    i love mangoes in dhal, in chutney, thokku, salads and thenga manga sundal a beach recipe, aam panna with very less sugar, mango and drumstick sambhars, even dried mango in vathakuzhambu..

    and here we are hijacking buttemoll to avakkai. pappu podi and avakkai rice is yum. @Sandycandy nice to know so many other who love raw mangoes and guavas. i love baer too..lol buttermilk aur lassi se avakkai aagaye!! anyways a couple of glasses chaas with a hint of castor oil to keep the heat off eating fresh avakaai pickle banta hai..

    I forgot to mention the bhel with grated raw mangoes,carrots,puffed rice,onion,lime juice,cilantro,tomatoes,ginger,cucumber,green chillies and few other spices is my favorite too,its a nice indian salad with a lot of crunchy veggies.

    +1 on the dal with raw mango . As a kid, we used to fight over the mango chunks in dal.

    I posted a few Andhra recipes including mamidikaya pappu in this link Telugu Cuisine.I tried vahchef's mango rice and fish curry with green mango.They were yum!

    Can you tell which mangoes you used?. I dint find the Indian variety here . May be should look at other Indian stores o_O

    I buy raw mangoes from Indian stores, don’t even try using a raw mango from American stores you would end up with a sweet mango, this is based on my experience.

    One more fan of raw mangoes and guavas here. Never cared for ripe mangoes. The only variety I can stand is Langra.

    @shravs3, I frequently see raw mangoes in Indian stores. And frozen raw mango is available year round — I use it regularly in dal.
