Re: Good hospitals in Chennai - Help needed.

Hi Maha, My sil delivered 3 yrs back at E.V. Kalyani (her first was also born there). she had c-section but that was due to some other medical problem... she knew from the beginning that hers would be c-section. her co-sister also delivered there and she had normal delivery. My sil goes there regularly for yearly gyn check-up with Dr. Geeta Arjun and she highly recommends it. My friend delivered under Dr.Vasanthi (Apollo) and said she was very good too. She went from Germany to India for delivery (and had several complications) but was thoroughly happy with the care given by both the doctor and the hospital. I think Apollo is slightly more expensive than E.V.K but you can expect good care for sure. Another good thing atleast Apollo (not sure about E.V.K) have Paediatrics also so that's another point to note. I can see you're getting ready for your trip:) take care and we shall keep in touch thro IL... Latha

I had my first delivery 5 yrs ago at SMF(Sundaram Medical Foundation),Anna Nagar and I can vouch for the wonderful pre and post natal care there. They too have a peadiatrician on call all the time just like here in the U.S.. For me ,because of BP complications and Gestational diabetes,I had to be hospitalised for a period of 3 weeks and the cost at that time was Rs.42000/- for that period, however delivery was normal. If delivery was by C-section,the cost would have been higher.

Hi Maha, you can ask to be consulted only by Gita Arjun. I would recommend that you ask your parents to call the hospital even before you land (if you decide on this hospital) and get an appointment. So soon after you reach you can go for a check-up and also you can be sure that she's available (explanations like you are coming from Dubai for delivery etc., will help!). Latha

    hi viji,

i dont know how DR.Seshaiy's is good for gestational diabetes, but he is a ver good doctor for normal diabetes.
At the clinic they do a very detailed examination. My uncle and my mom have been taking treatment there.

For gestational diabetes, I suggest you first consult with your gyn before going to a diabetes specialist. I have heard that diabetes during pregnancy goes away after delivery so you might not need an extensive treatment.

After 4 days or so, you can perform a home test by purchasing the home test kit (I suppose they should be available in India too).

    Dear Pavithra

I don't think this is GD since GD comes only after one becomes pregnant around the 7th month or so.Looks like Viji already has diabetes even before pregnancy.

I don't know about Dr.Seshiah but I had GD and I went to Sundaram Medical foundation,Anna Nagar for my delivery and had good care then(5 yrs back).Hope this info will be of use to you.
