சிட்டுக்குருவி தினம் இன்று சிட்டுக்குருவி தினம் என அறிவிக்க என்ன காரணம்? நமக்கு இது வியப்பைத் தருவதில் விந்தை இல்லை. நாம் அறியாமலே, மற்றும் அறிந்து செய்யும் வினோத, விஞ்ஞான வளர்ச்சியும் நம் மாறிவிட்ட வாழ்கை முறையும் தான். சிட்டுக்குருவிகளின் எண்ணிக்கை மிகவும் குறைந்து விட்டன. ஆராய்ச்சியாளர்களின் சில முக்கிய கண்டுபிடிப்புகளை காணலாம். வளர்ந்து வரும் மொபைல் போன் கலாச்சாரத்தினால், இக்க்குருவிகள் அழிந்து வருகின்றன. மொபைல் டவர்களில் இருந்து வரும் சிக்னல்கள் இக்குரிவியின் கருப்பையை மற்றும் கருவை பாதித்து இவற்றின் இனப் பெருக்கத்தை குறைக்கின்றன. பாவம் இக்க்குருவிகள் அவற்றின் மீது தான் வாசம் செய்கின்றன. காலன் என அறியாது, காலனோடு கத்தித் திரிகின்றன. வயல்கள் இன்று நம் வசந்த மாளிகைகள் கட்ட, பட்டா போடப் பட்டுவிட்டன. வயல்களில் பாடி பறந்து திரிந்த இக்குருவிகளுக்கு இன்று அந்த வாய்ப்புகளும் குறைந்து விட்டன. இருக்கும் சில வயல்களிலும் நாம் உபயோகிக்கும் பூச்சிக் கொல்லி மருந்துகள் இவற்றையும் பாதிக்கின்றன. இவை உண்ணும் பூச்சிகளை, பூச்சிக் கொல்லிகள் கொன்றுவிடுவதால் அதிலும் இக்குருவிகளுக்கு வருவது உணவுப் பற்றாக்குறையே. வீடுகளில் முன்பெல்லாம் சிறிய தோட்டம் இட்டு, இக்குருவிகள் நிறைய வர இருந்த வாய்ப்பும் குறைந்துவிட்டது. நாமே குருவிக் கூட்டில் வாழ, குருவியாக சேர்த்த பொருள் பற்ற வில்லை. டிபார்ட்மென்ட் ஸ்டோர் கல்ச்சர் வந்து மளிகை கடைகள் குறைந்ததும் ஒரு காரணமாகக் கூறுகிறார்கள். பிளாஸ்டிக் பாக்கெட்டிலே எல்லா தானியங்களும் அடைக்கப் படுவதால், சிந்தாமல் சிதறாமல் நாம் எடுத்து செல்கிறோம், ஆகையினால் இக்குருவிகளுக்கு சிதறும் தானியங்களும் கிடைப்பது இல்லை. விஞ்ஞான வளர்ச்சியை தடுக்க வழி இல்லை, இக்குரிவிகளின் வாழ்க்கையத் தர ஒரு சில வழிகள் உண்டு. சிந்தித்து சிட்டுக்குருவிகளை காப்போம். ஒவ்வொருவர் வீட்டிலும் சிறிய தோட்டம் அமைப்போம், இடமிருந்தால். இல்லையெனில் பால்கனியிலாவது சிறிய பூந்தொட்டிகள் வைப்போம். காலையிலும், மாலையிலும் தானியங்கள் இறைத்திடுவோம், வீட்டு முற்றத்திலோ அல்லது மொட்டை மாடியிலோ. அதனுடன் சிறு பாத்திரத்தில் தண்ணீர் வைப்போம், இக்குருவிகளின் கண்ணீர் துடைப்போம். நமது முயற்சி சிறிதெனினும் இக்குருவிகளின் வாழ்வில் அது பெரிய உதவி. இவை அழிந்து கொண்டே இருந்தால், நமக்கு இவற்றின் சத்தத்தை நமது மொபைல் போனில் காலர் ட்யூன் ஆகத் தான் கேட்க வாய்பிருக்கும். இவற்றைக் கொல்ல காரணமான மொபைல் போனே சிட்டுக்குருவிகளின் சத்தத்தை பாடித் திரியும் கொல்லும் கருவிகளாகும்.
You have touched a matter which has been bothering me for so many years Natpudan.I used to love those small, beautiful birds. While I was living in Chennai ( I am talking about Eighties) I used to feed them every day at the same hour. They used to wait for me, flying here and there,constantly chirping and they know their food will come and once they saw me they all used to come to the window-ledge and take the food from my hand. I don't see them anymore, anywhere in India. I don't see them here in Sydney too. Last year we went to place called Nelson bay for a long weekend and I saw plenty of these birds there and I was so happy seeing them I was almost in tears!

Monifa, They are cutest & friendliest bird I think. Really they are very clean & do not disturb us at all. Their chirping is also very sweet to the ears unlike some other birds. Some things in life when we miss, tears do come. Thank you for sharing your experience.
Dear Nats, மனது மிகவும் கஷ்டமாக உள்ளது. ஆனால் இது உண்மைதான். சிறு வயதில் நாம் பார்த்ததுண்டு. வயல் வெளியில் மின்சார கம்பியில் அத்துணை அழகாய் வருசையில் அமர்ந்து இருக்கும். இன்று கிடையாது. மக்கள் மற்றும் அரசியல் வாதிகள் மிகவும் சுயநலவாதிகள் ஆகி விட்டோம். இனியாவது முடிந்தவரை சிட்டு குருவியை பாதுகாப்போம். எதை தேடி இப்படி இருப்பதையெல்லாம் தொலைக்கிறோம் ? மனிதன் இயற்கையை மீறி சாதித்ததாக தம்பட்டம் அடிக்கும் போதெல்லாம்,அதற்காக அவன் கொடுக்கும் விலையை தெரிந்தோ தெரியாமலோ மறந்தோ மறைத்தோ விடுகிறான். சிட்டு குருவியை அதன் வாழ்க்கை முறையை அனுபவித்து ரசித்தால் குடித்தனத்தின் ரகசியம் புரியும்.ஆனால் இது இயற்கையின் இலவசம். சிட்டு குருவியோ ஒன்றாம் வகுப்பு கூட படிக்கவில்லை. அதனால்தான் மனிதன் குடும்ப நல கோர்ட்டு,கவுன்சிலிங் என்று மெத்த படித்த மேதாவிகளின் பின்னே ஏதோ ஒரு நப்பாசையுடன் அலைகிறான். படைத்தவன் தூரத்திலிருந்து ரசித்து சிரிக்கிறான். with love pad

Oh! Felt sad to read this post. These small things get unnoticed for many of us and thanks to u for throwing light on this topic. As commented here, dont tell me we can see them henceforth only in Bird Sanctuaries. See the law of balancing act. On one side we enjoy the benefits of mobile phones and on the other, the same proves detrimental to the sustenance of this species. Very touching Nats.
Dear Natpudan, As everyone rightly said the days we enjoyed listening to the birds churping along with the vedic chanting by elders at home ... in the evenings is just so passifying. And we loosen ourselves and listen to them. this way we managed our stress... now we go for stress management courses with all th loads of stress on us ... Dunno where the human and technology leads to. To my consense I want to do something ... so at home daily I feed my birds just the boiled rice. In stead of throwing the left overs or keep them in fridge and then have it I give it to the nature. This way there are lots of Chittu kuruvis at home ... in this dessert ... kids also feel so good.
