I used to have a separate Pooja room, now I have it in my Kitchen. I donot do cleaning every day. I light lamp every day morning and evening after my bath. I chant my daily slokas, that would be as I am cooking or doing some work in kitchen. Cleaning I do when ever time permits and during festivals. I offer fruits or some prasadam. Flowers only during occasions, unlike India we donot get too many flowers here. On specific days I recite the specific shlokas, like friday it would be Lakshmi astakam etc etc.
It is not appropriate to keep one's altar in the kitchen. If you are non vege, it is even more inappropriate. If space is a matter, try to place in the hall. Just a suggestion.
When I said Kitchen, I have a open kitchen in the living room, and there is a separate closet with a door, which is exclusively for our Gods, I open only during the pooja time. Also we are vegetarians. Thanks for the suggestion.
I don`t do any pooja as such. My hubby does the lighting of the lamp, utuvatthis and cleaning the altar. I mop the pooja room floor. I do the chanting of the shlokas during my other household chores.
