Exactly. This is my sentiment. Even these epic (possibly fictitious) accounts of Indian history, is full of disgraceful treatment of women.

While retirement homes seem to be off-putting to a lot of people, there are such things as retirement communities and assisted living centers. In the US, it is common to see areas, that have created comforts and facilities for the older generation. I grew up in a neighborhood that was designed to eventually be a retirement community (recreation and exercise centers for elderly and healthcare nearby) - of course, then Indian families moved in and messed up that plan. There are services to help elderly who are unable to pick up their own groceries or drive. I have even seen apartment complexes designed for retirees, so that they can stay independent, yet be able to access emergency services easily. These communities provide a lot of entertainment and activities, as well, so many do not feel lonely.

The US is definitely not perfect. I think ideally, it would be interesting to see daycare and retirement communities side by side. It would cultivate a healthy respect for the elderly at a young age, and keep the elderly from being sidelined. Its a relatively new problem to have people living so long, and in some cases, living longer with more health problems. It's a big mental shift to figure out the best way to create an infrastructure that can sustain this.

I too like the assisted living centers in USA .
Elders get to spend time with their age group.
Some even live alone in their homes .they have aides coming in to help them with cleaning, shopping ,cooking. They have 911 for medicaid emergencies .
