Many have already been following this concept only as a ceremonial gesture. Kanyadaan or giving away the bride is not taken literally.

The girl's side decides to pay for the wedding. They may have reasons like the guy is worth it, they don't want to look outside their community, etc. If the parents of an educated woman and the woman decide to go with an unfair burden of wedding costs, it is a choice they make, for whatever reasons.

Women want to be independent, to have an equal partnership in marriage, then, they have to also be equal partners financially. They want to have a partner who considers the wife his equal, they have to look for such a man and not settle for less. Once they have a partner who thinks like them, they can work out arrangements that work for them, and support each other and do what is best for the family as kids come along and career aspirations change.

A woman having a partner who considers the woman his equal does not just happen. She has to kiss many frogs first. Similarly for the man. He wants certain qualities in wife, he has to look for them.

I cannot speak for other questions but I am reasonably sure this particular one is actually not aimed at the physician. Its to check if the scheduler is doing its job. Most docs offices and hospitals esp the ones with specialists use some form of scheduler software. ( Its a very interesting optimization problem ) Studies have shown that if a patient is consistently waiting for more than X min there is a greater chance he/she will go else where for service . That is why they pay $$ for a good scheduler ...they are making sure they r getting their moneys worth .

Sure, yes, I picked a benign question for reasons of privacy, but trust me, asking an uninformed person to rate a physician is a bit like our old "girl seeing" (!) ceremony in the context of an arranged marriage. Some insights can indeed be gained, but on the whole, superficial characteristics acquire undue importance!

I cannot rein in your imagination, but rest assured that the caste system was farthest from my mind. I was making a point about relative value, more in line with the ironic sense of "Harrison Bergeron". I am utterly unabashed about denigrating the engineers of the abuses in the US healthcare system, including greedy hack physicians, but the geniuses who came up with the chargemaster deserve their own circle of hell. For details on one source of my anger and disgust, read "An American Sickness".:yikes:

Ha... it is a contract agreed to under duress. Perhaps a wee bit more serious than these online user-agreements that we click on and convey we had read that. After the hormones settle down, each party gets a bargaining position, and they renegotiate.

I don't think I had to use much of my imagination, the condescension implied and the interesting choice of words like doofus & licking boots brought flashes from history book pages before my eyes! I understand your anger towards the over engineered QC systems, but unfortunately it seemed like it was aimed at the poor survey designer & his worth & implied superiority of the doctor. I think you heard me.

@Rihana there was a thread ( I think started by you) giving pointers for what a girl should keep in mind while groom searching. Does that ring a bell, can you please please post the link here? My search, so far ,has been fruitless .

PS- Apologies if I am using the wrong thread to ask
