Impossible!

If you keep thinking why are people doing what they are doing you will never be able to break out of this infinite regress of maintaining relationships. You got to keep moving, prancing, flitting and go about doing stuff you like. If people retreat because of something they don't like in you they will again resurface and be attracted to something they like in you next time. Just go about life. Move/juggle in life between people and passions. Don't take anything esp "yourself" too seriously. Your anchor in life should be your adaptability not your comfy environs.
