    With my limited knowledge of philosophy what I got is -- choosing not to wait is not an option if you take the view of Spinoza and other determinists. As per determinism, past, present, and future are as they are, unassailable, hence waiting might just be their (the folks in the story) lot. I'm not sure how to explain the arithmomorphism bit. I guess he means the structure of the story better lends itself to qualitative reasoning. One can't reduce it to a mathematical/logical analysis. Or... I might be full of sh*t! :D
