This brought to memory a happy moment: After wedding, together our maiden rail journey in express from Madras to Dadar. My MIT class mates and our parents seen us off at platform. After an hour and a half, we both wished to have coffee from our thermos flasks one containing hot milk and the other decoction. Train halted at Thiruthani platform for brief period. Windows not covered with horizontal spaced steel rods. There was a jerk and flask containing decoction tilted and our desired to have coffee gone in rivulets. Train was about to start. Through the window my mit class mate TSK’s sister P with her husband surprised us showing up at window while P’s husband proffered a flask and two shining stainless steel tumbler and waved at us as the train got momentum. We enjoyed the coffee in their flask which we returned to them after a decade when P’s husband got transferred on elevation to a higher post to Bombay. The flavour is still strong and green in our memory.

Off course. One should relish the Mambalam kootan when it's mambalam season. Avial is a classic. One of the healthiest I feel for all the veggies which goes into it. And no need to ask about Rasam ..from kids to old people all enjoy this tamarindt tomato broth.. It's a mandatory weekend dish...
quite so. 2. I enjoy heap of cooked hot rice kneaded with mango juice alternating with either sambar or curd badam! A nectar ambrosia combo. 3. Avial for lunch follows very light or no supper for me. 4. While We talk of taste and food, Late COMEDIAN NS K rishnan's lines cross the mind: Indha Indha oru jawn vairay illatta intha ulagathilay yedhu galette. Regards. God bless.
