    Dear Sabitha,

    An excellent response from you that resonated very well for me. It is such a coincidence that I reviewed Patanjali Yoga Sutras recently just before I wrote this snippet when I investigated more about Kaivalyam. Despite you mentioning so many times earlier, I ended up reviewing Patanjali Yoga Sutras only now that too to review about Kaivalya. I also came across Sivanandaonline explanation of Kaivalya.

    I have a conviction about knowledge I covered extensively here in this snippet. Our studying scriptures is only to remind who we really are which automatically means we are already full of knowledge devoid of our Gunas. Therefore, in my view whether the teachers have achieved the ultimate goal of self-realization or not, it is so satisfying to know that everyone of us has the potential inherent in us. The urge to be free and the knowledge Self has are undeniable. Every soul that comes into existence (no matter how many lives it had taken) separated from its attributeless nature would always have the urge to be free and the knowledge to do so. Through the process of elimination, one can realize who he/she is.

    @Viswamitra
    While going through your excellent article I was reminded of the message imparted by Sri Annamacarya in his song, "nanati badhuku natakamu".
    The gist of the song is:
    Between the two ends, birth and death, all that we do is nothing but drama. The eternal truth lies beyond all this, and that is Lord Vishnu, beyond time, beyond the Universe. That is where our salvation lies.

    Here is that popular song rendered by none other than the divine voice of MS Amma

    @kkrish,

    What an apt response to this snippet yours is! I heard MS' voice first to my satisfaction and then rushed to understand the meaning of those words. I also reviewed Tallapaka Annamacharya's relentless pursuit of divinity by writing 32,000 Sankeertanas. Conviction more than intellectual stimulation that would help us to find the innate divinity. We have to find that urge to be free and then by constantly pursuing that conviction, we need to seek liberation. Unfortunately, the Veda informs us that Manas is not Kaivalyam and therefore what is perceived by it can't be Kaivalyam as well, as it is impermanent. We need to be above the mind to realize Self. "I am that" can be derived only by finding everything else as "I am not that" including Manas. What we can't eliminate becomes truth eventually.

    MS' renderings will continue to tear up our eyes forever.

    I must have heard the song referred to here over hundreds of time but it never occurred to me to study the meaning of it as Annamacharya wrote in A language which is Greek and Latin tome.
    2. I read the Post & it’s FBs several times and the distinction between several types of Mukthi. Lord Rama to Hanuman explained which form of Mukthi is the best and what one should do to attain this.
    3. I googled and found several shades of meaning to the word kaivallyam. Sanskrit dictionary Sanskrit Dictionary Gives eight interesting meanings.
    4. This is an esoteric subject and I appreciate our Indus philosophers discussing the path to liberation ie moksha kaivalyam.
    Hats off to @Viswamitra & to others posted FBs here for the enlightenment.
    God is approachable and one tend to believe He is simple yet it is complex to discover the glorious path to Him. Why God created karma?

    Dear Sri Thyagarajan:

    If you team together with Cheeniya Sir to make fun of me, I can't escape the humor of two seniors. I would be happy if I have one-millionth of Paramcharya's knowledge and yet remain so humble praying for the well-being of every life. At least let me remain Viswa Mitran in my IL name. :)

    I actually took the meaning mentioned in the Sanskrit dictionary quoted by you above:

    kaivalyam कैवल्यम्

    Definition: कैवल्यम् [केवलस्य भावः ष्यञ्] 1 Perfect isolation, soleness, exclusiveness. -2 Individuality; Bhāg.5.3.17. -3 Detachment of the soul from matter, identification with the supreme spirit. -4 Final emancipation or beatitude; Bhāg.1.8.27. -5 Everlasting disappearance of the three pains; कैवल्यं माध्यस्थ्यम् Sā&ndot. K.19.; कैवल्यार्थं प्रवृत्तेश्च ibid. 17.

    When Hanuman was asked by Sri Rama how to be a devotee, this noble soul suggested the following:

    When I consider my body, I am your servant (Dehabhavena Daso-smi)
    When I consider my mind, I am part of you(Jeevabhavena tvadamshakah)
    When I consider my Self, You are I are one (Atmabhavena tvamevaham).

    Knowing this difference made him the greatest devotee of Sri Rama.

    :hello:in comparsion with your knowledge demonstrated already in IL naturally mine is shallow or insignificant in respect of spirituality and moksha. Thus there was a strong urge to show my reverence to your knowledge and hence the response.
    Thanks for further enlightenment.
    Regards.

    My dear Viswa
    It was not some playful remark of mine. It was genuine appreciation. I can never write something in that genre.

    Dear Cheeniya Sir,

    I would have been happier if you said it was a playful remark. Now, I am thoroughly embarrassed. :(

    Dear Viswamitra,

    I second Cheeniya sir's remarks. Seriously, it is such a tough topic and to be able to write with such consummate ease on various aspects of our philosophy is not a joke.

    I read your post and all the responses. I have to go a long way before I am able to assimilate the full meaning and will have to read your post a few times before I can really understand. It appears to me that I am stuck at the level at which I was when I stopped going to Vedanta classes decades ago. I don't know, I might be wrong, but I feel most of the texts come down to the same point - Tat Tvam Asi. Like I have said before, I understand that on the logical level, but have to really figure out whether I ever experience flashes of momentary insight into that truth.

    As for the various texts like Patanjali and definitions of Kaivalya etc., I have to admit complete ignorance. The more I try to find out, the more I realize how ignorant I am and so I have decided to let it be. It will happen when it has to.
