Girls, take a look at this endearing video if you didn't already. Marykay Carlson, the chargé d'affaires of US Embassy in New Delhi wore a saree to celebrate Independence Day. She actually chose 4 and created a poll on twitter for people to choose the final one. Funny trivia - she has worn and taken more pictures in a saree in one month than I have in a year : )

Around 25 seconds before the end, she walks so gracefully and easily. That is one thing I like about sarees. If secured properly in 2-3 places with pins, you can rest assured you won't have a wardrobe malfunction, no matter how new to wearing sarees.

She even made a video for the poll. Nice.

More trivia: so she has a "black" blouse just to try out the sarees! : ) The grandma in me was happy she chose a sleeved blouse for the final choice (kanjeevaram).

OP, sorry for hijack. Didn't want to create another thread.

She didn't try the gujarathi style draping that shows off the design on the palav.
In a 9 yard saree, draped south-indian style, she could show off one of her bare leg also. This type of wrap does not require a petticoat underneath, as well as easy to take longer strides in. Sort of like a pair of pants.

Here is a woman explaining how to do it. Although the language is not easy to follow, one may just follow her actions ( and catch a few English words, and phrases she says). Instead of bare legs, as in the normal indian fashion, she has leggings on for the video. If one is doing it at home, no need for the leggings.

Correction. 9yards saree can be draped 'South Indian Style' in two ways, the other kind doesn't show off much of your bare legs.

Nowadays, Readymade Sarees are also available. I don't wear Saree so my friends used to suggest me that. But, never tried it. Can anybody tell me how these readymade sarees are like?

I never heard of such sarees until I saw this post. I also had to google them.

I have used readymade sarees, which we just need to tuck in as it will have the drapes 'already' ready to wear. It is easy. I love sarees but I use them only on traditional days & functions though :(. I feel its time taking to wear!
