Risks

Gestational diabetes causes the baby to be large for dates, which may result in delivery complications. There is a higher risk of a cesarean section, stillbirth, and high blood pressure. The baby might develop jaundice, lung problems, low blood calcium and brain damage if the condition is not properly managed.

Treatment

If you test positive for GD, the doctor would recommend you to adopt a healthier lifestyle, eat nutritious meals while avoiding sugary stuff, monitor your insulin levels regularly, keep your weight gain in check and take up walking or other mild exercise.

Lastly, you might need to take insulin injections.

Maintaining a moderate and healthy lifestyle before and during pregnancy prevents GD and most other pregnancy problems.
