Developing a high sugar level during pregnancy is known as gestational diabetes. Once diagnosed, if you receive proper care then you can deliver a healthy baby with no complications at all.

Else there are chances of complications during delivery. This is because your elevated sugar level increases the blood glucose levels of the foetus as well. This makes the foetus become large than normal.

Also, if gestational diabetes is not checked during your pregnancy, then your baby, post birth can suffer from low blood glucose or hypoglycaemia.

Other serious complications of poorly controlled high sugar level are an increased risk of jaundice and respiratory distress syndrome in the new born or even miscarriage.

As for you, uncontrolled gestational diabetes can lead to you needing a C-section and also the risk of preeclampsia (high blood pressure)
