Being a mother is not easy. It’s a big responsibility and while a mother understands that, it often can be quite overwhelming. That’s where post partum depression comes in, a concept that is a little difficult to understand, but one that affects all mothers.

Here are some tips for you to overcome it and experience a happier motherhood.

Read during Pregnancy

Read books regarding the why’s and how’s of postpartum depression during your pregnancy. Knowing what will happen after child birth will keep your anxieties at its minimal.

Admit it

Many feel ashamed to admit the emotions that they are feeling. However, what you should realize is that this type of depression and thoughts is hormonal and very natural after child birth. So go ahead and speak about it to someone who you can trust.

Get Others to Help

Don’t try and do everything yourself. The baby has her father, grandparents, etc too. Just in case you are alone, then don’t hesitate to keep a nanny. So get help and don’t feel guilty about it.

Me Time

It’s essential to take out at least an hour everyday when someone can take care of the baby and you can spend some quality time with yourself. Use this time to mediate, read a magazine or a comic book, listen to some music, do some painting or craft work, enjoy a massage and aromatic bath at home, or just lie down with your eyes closed. This time is absolutely essential to de-stress.

Have Fun

Grow with your baby. If you are a first time mother, despite all the books that you might have read or the advice that you might have got, you are bound to goof up at times. Don’t let that scare you. Have fun and enjoy the company of the life that you have brought into this world.
