Editor’s Note: Easter is here. It is a time for new life and to renew our belief in the Lord. our IL member, Sarah61212, has shared this wonderful story with us. Tell us your thoughts here.
You, Lord, keep my lamp burning; my God turns my darkness into light (Psalm 18:28).
Lord Jesus Christ came to be a light in the world. He said, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life” (John 8:12 & 9:5).
Since a woman was in an advanced stage of pregnancy, her parents and her husband took her to hospital. The doctor who examined her said to her husband, “There are many complications in your wife’s body. So we can take out the child only through a surgery.”
Then they took her into the operation theatre. Both her parents and her husband were eagerly waiting near the theatre to see the new born baby. Suddenly the doctor came and said, “Sir, we tried our best to save your child, but we could not do so. Your child is dead.” They were shocked to hear this news.
The next moment the husband said, “Doctor, since my child is dead, I would like to donate his eyes. So please take his eyes and give them to somebody who is not able to see.” As desired by him, one of the eyes of that new born baby was fixed to a person who was the head of a family. He was the only earning member of that family. Another eye was fixed to a mother in a family. Thus both these families who were going through darkness received a great light.
When the father of the dead child saw this, he said, “Although I don’t have a child, the eyes of my child have brought light to a couple of families.” The Bible says, “…Let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your father in heaven” (Matthew 5:16).
The Almighty God has sent His only begotten Son as a precious gift to us to enable us to walk in the light. If only Lord Jesus Christ had not come into this world as a child, we would be still living in darkness. Hence we must always be grateful to God for sending His only begotten Son into this world. The Psalmist says, “You, O LORD, keep my lamp burning; my God turns my darkness into light” (Psalm 18:28). God Himself is our light. When He comes into our lives, He will dispel the darkness from our lives with the brightness of His glory.
Lord Jesus, You are the eternal light. You came to be a light in the world. I believe in You. I choose to follow your path of light. Deliver me from darkness and enable me to walk in the light. May I receive the light of eternal life. Let my light shine before men and bring glory to your name.
