Only a Bucket of Water
Explain to your child how water is scarce in different parts of the world. Then fill a bucket of water for each member of your family and tell everyone that that is the only water that they can use for the whole day. The person who uses her bucket most prudently will be rewarded for water saving.
Story Time
Have a story telling session, where you tell your child short stories that describe different ways water is being wasted in today’s world. Then ask her what she feels was done wrong and what she would have done to prevent such wastage.
Teach them through Plants
Lay a sheet of cotton wool on a tray. Take a few mustard or methi seeds and place them on the bed of cotton wool. Ask your child to water the seeds and make her do it 2-3 days when she will see small roots coming out of the seeds. Then tell her not to water the seeds for next few days. She will notice that the seeds have all dried up. Explain to her how, if plants don’t get water they can’t live. So we need to conserve water.
