Benefits behind GMFs

Even before the cloud of controversies covering the GM Crops, scientists could recognize several benefits of these GM foods and so they introduced them to the world. They found that the transferred genes carry desirable characters to the plant. These transferred genes are considered as blue prints or simple codes that can aid the plant in making a protein. These can offer several benefits like the increased pest and disease resistance, drought tolerance, increased food supply and also protection of environment by preventing soil erosion and many more.

Even after several controversies few nations are found producing these biotech foods among which India can be noticed. Nations of the world like United States, Argentina, Brazil, Canada and few regions of Europe are found producing these foods particularly BT Cotton, Corn, Soybeans and Sugar beets. Also small amounts of GE Papaya, Squash and milk products are found in few regions.

With several controversies and cross talks about these GM Foods, majority of us came to a conclusion that they are totally unsafe. If this is a fact, then the concept of GM foods would have come to an end long time ago. But still the shelves of supermarkets in US and several other parts of world carry GM foods. Now it is upon all of us to decide whether we are eating safe and are they holding the right genes.
