Since 1980, the United Nations World Tourism Organization has celebrated World Tourism Day on September 27. This date was chosen as on that day in 1970, the acts of the UNWTO were adopted. The adoption of these acts is considered a milestone in global tourism. The purpose of this day is to raise awareness on the role of tourism within the international community and to demonstrate how it affects Themes of World Tourism Day over the years: Theme for 2013: Tourism and Water: Protecting our Common Future and Maldives will host the official celebrations on 27 September 2013. Even though tourism day is celebrated it has many advantages and disadvantages . Advantages of tourism It brings in money. It provides jobs for the locals. It provides a incentive for investment in infrastructure. It provides economic incentives to upkeep their urban and wildlife areas. Disadvantages of tourism Environmental damage Pollution of forest.
