    SKIN CARE -Winter Spl

Face skin care in winter season
Winters season is one of the most dangerous for your face skin. Your face suffers from biting wind, snow, frost and heating at home or work. Your facial skin becomes dry, sensitive and chapped. So, how can you protect and keep your skin healthy?

What exactly happens to our skin in winter?
    • When you are outside, the cold temperatures result in a poor blood circulation in your facial skin. As a result your skin does not get enough nutrients and oxygen and all the healthy, regenerative processes in your skin slow down. As a result, skin looses its healthy color and becomes dull or pale
    • When you are inside, your skin is losing its moisture due to the dry environment created by indoor heating. As a result, it feels tight, dry and can start flaking.
    • When you shift between the cold outside and the warm and dry inside environments the difference is so big and stressful for your skin that your skin naturally cannot balance itself quickly enough. This results in loss of hydration, irritation, widened capillaries and redness. All of the above contributes to your skin’s misbalance, stress, sensitivity and dryness.
Hot Bubbly Escapes:It is not recommended to have prolonged hot showers or long hot baths in winter. The fact is that the latter do not add to the moisture level of our skin but on the contrary take away the protecting lipid and fat layers and contribute to skin’s dehydration. When you shower make sure the water is not too hot and use shower milk that contains oils and emollients. If you are a fan of bubble baths as a way to escape the winter blues make sure to add moisturizing oils to the baths and apply a moisturizing body product afterwards.

You should use scent free soaps and washes also avoid colored or antibacterial facial skin products. All chemicals which add scents and color are the reason why our skin becomes dry.
The most important thing is moisturizing!
Moisturizers are mostly based on 3 types of ingredients: humectants, emollients, occlusive (very often emollients have occlusive properties as well). Humectants-based products are usually recommended for oily and combination skin types, while emollient-based and occlusive-based ones for normal and dry types. However, in winter our skin type often shifts. Oily skin becomes normal, while normal displays signs of being dry, and dry skin becomes very sensitive and often irritated.

Apply your moisturizer at least 30 minutes to an hour before going outside. This is especially true if your moisturizer is humectants-based or has high water content. If you do not let your moisturizer penetrate and get absorbed by the skin it can freeze into micro ice particles on your skin’s surface or dramatically cool down your skin surface when you go into the cold winter day. That’s why you should use oil-based moisturizer. For better results apply your moisturizing cream immediately after you have a wash and while skin is still damp. Daily use nutritional face cream enriched vitamins, fruity acid. But undoubtedly best way to hydrate your skin is drink plenty of water.
Don’t forget to protect your skin when you are out!
Many people are thinking sun is dangerous only in summer, but it’s not true! you must wear sunscreen. Remember, that sun ages your skin. Use moisturizer with SPF 15 or even SPF 30. Your makeup must be with sun protection too.
Go Easier on daily cleansing in the winter
since extreme weather weakens skin’s balance and protective lipid barrier; you need to save your skin the additional stress of an intensive cleansing routine that will only worsen the situation. Choose a lighter non-stripping cleansing solution: cleansing milk or mild foaming cleanser.
Peel Deal:If you are a fan of daily peeling products, it is advisable to change your routine for winter and to do a maximum of 2-3 peelings per week. Peeling your skin surface on a daily basis does not let it restore its protective lipid barrier and balance itself. It becomes more susceptible to free radical damage and even to break-outs. If you notice that your skin has become very dry, sensitive or even started flaking, exclude moisturizers, serums etc containing peeling ingredients such Retinol, AHAs and Glucosamine.
Say No to Chapped Lips and Dry Hands
Usually lips and hands suffer most during the winter season. Lips get sore and chapped and hands get dry and flaky. For your lips, choose a thicker moisturizer with shea butter, jojoba butter OR avocado oil and apply it every time before going outside as well as before going to bed. Some protective and moisturizing lip care products are available as tinted glosses or balms. If you want to have healthy not chapped lips, don’t lick and bite them!

Take special care of your hands since skin on the hands is thinner than on the rest of the body. In addition, hands are often exposed to stressful or stripping factors like soaps, winds, water etc. And finally, it is a known fact that hands are among the first to show signs of aging. Choose a rich emollient-based hand care product and treat your hands to a mask two times a week.
    Humidify:

Home or office environments in winter can get very dry due to heating. Your skin starts to feel tight and burning from dehydration. Increase the humidity level indoors by using a humidifier. Alternatively, several house plants can balance out humidity level in the environment.
    Vitamins and Antioxidants:
Help your skin to regain its energy and strength in winter by taking an antioxidant supplement. Most important antioxidants for the skin are Vitamin C, B, E, Zinc and Magnesium

    Stay Active:
Do not give in to winter blues. Do your daily fitness routine! This keeps you fit and stimulates blood circulation in your whole body and of course your skin.

    Express Winter Facial:
Give yourself a mini-facial at home once or twice a week. Cleanse your skin. Use a mild exfoliating product selected for your skin type. Take a soft fluffy towel and soak it in warm water (not hot but not cool either). Add 2-3 drops of an essential aroma oil such as lavender oil to sooth, de-stress and refresh the skin. Press the towel to your face and inhale 3-4 times slowly and deeply to let the oil do its aroma work. This will stimulate blood circulation as well. For a stronger effect you can repeat the procedure one more time. Make sure the room where you are having your mini-facial is comfortably warm. The mask on your face should not cool down to a level stressful for your skin. Take off the mask and apply your daily moisturizer with massaging movements. Direct the movements from the center of your face outward and a bit upward. Finish up by slightly tapping with your fingertips all over your face. This express facial will stimulate blood circulation, give your skin energy, restore its balance and help it regain its healthy radiance. Women first brings you some specially selected winter masks for busy modern women like you…
A cultured milk mask is a simple and effective cure for tired skin. Just apply a bit of natural yogurt, buttermilk, sour cream, or kefir on your face avoiding areas around the eyes. Relax for 10-15 minutes and rinse your face with cool water . This mask softens, rejuvenates, and restores a natural pH balance of your skin, thus, protecting it from negative influences of winter air.

An egg white mask is good for oily skin with large pores. Smooth a beaten egg yolk all over your face, let rest for half-an-hour, and rinse with water. This mask will refresh and tighten your oily skin and will make it look much healthier than before. In the winter, it will create a natural barrier to protect your skin from harsh winds and frost.

An avocado mask is perfect for dry skin that may become very irritated in the winter. It is easy to make: mash the flesh of avocado with a fork, add a touch of extra-virgin olive oil, and apply this smooth, fragrant mixture onto your face. This nourishing mask will supply your skin with a whole range of vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, and softening agents to fight winter dryness.

An oatmeal mask is a great remedy for skin beaten by a cold wind. To make it, mix together in equal proportions raw oatmeal flakes, egg yolk, and honey. Keep the mask on your face for about 20 minutes, wash with lukewarm water, and pat dry. After the application, your facial skin should feel very soft, refreshed, and healed.
If you have combination skin suffering from winter elements, try a softening banana mask. Mix mashed banana with fresh sweet cream and apply this wonderful mask all over your face for 30 minutes. It will smooth, soften, moisturize and nourish your skin whenever necessary and will make you forget about the cold, harsh, and nasty winter outside!

    winter skin & hair care.

    hi,
Are you ready to welcome winter or scared of scaly hands and feet, dry lips, brittle hair, craked feet not but not the least loads and loads of layers to wear to keep onself warm.
Well chancing weather means change in daily routine, every season has it set system, here are some tips to welcome winter not with dull winter complexion but with radiance.

The first and foremost sign of winter is scaly skin - add jojoba oil or almond oil in the bathing water.keep the water temp just warm not hot.we would like it steaming hot but it dries off the oil gland which keep the skin moistened.just keep it warm, and use less of soap (only once)
Every alternate day massage ur body with warm coconut, mustard or almod oil all our the body just 30-40min before bath.use whole green gram powder +rice flour paste(2:1)to scrub the whole body.this will help remove dull and dead skin which is common in this season.
When ur body is still damp apply moisturizer this way the body absorbs the cream properly.
Dont discard the sunscreen, use it as u use in summer(spf 30 preferably).

2.Don't lick ur lips frequently, use a good lip balm(E Vit enrached)to maintain supple and crack free lips.use lipstick which is moisturize based best is to avoid when not required.in the nite apply good petroleum jelly on lips.

3.Nails get brittle and break easily, while apply almond oil to skin see that ur nails too are applied.hot water baths spoil the texture of nails and turn them dull so don't take prolonged baths and cover with pair of socks and gloves everytime u go out.

4.Hair turns dull and falls off easily in this season.Dont go out with damp hair as this make the hair more stiff and easy to break.
it is better not to leave the hair open this season and the wind drives off the natural oil in the scalp.twist or keep the hair in tact with clutchers.
Cover the scalp with silk scarfs.
    Dont use dryers at all.
Give a warm oil massage(olive or coconut) once a weak, herbal oil should not be kept for long as all herbal oils r coolants.
use stay on conditioners on hair in winters.
5.Drink water as usually, generally the body demands less water in winters so keep a check of water in take, drink herbal tea, black tea with lemon and tulsi is ideal to keep cold and cough at bay.
6.Eat lots of leafy vegetables, this season has so many nutietious veg and fruits.
7.Munch of fruits, nuts+gud, everytime u feel hungry(in winter u feel hungry frequently compared to that of other seasons).
8.Last but not the least cover well to shield from cold
Happy Winters!! all u gorgeous girls and ladies.

Re: winter skin & hair care.

    hi,
Conditioners are of two types one which u rinse off and another which u apply to damp hair after a shower.
It is better to use the first type. But before u rinse off let the conditioner stay for 3-5min in winters and 2m in summer and rinse with timid water or cold water.
Applying conditioner in a correct method also plays a major role.
The conditioner should be applied to the hair above the root and till the tips.rub conditioner in ur palm and let the fingers cover the strands till the tip properly, let it stay for 2-3min and wash off with cold or luke warm water,Never rinse off conditioner with hot water.

For best results do warm oil massage with almond or olive oil atleast 1-2hrs before u take shower or over nite and rinse off next day.do this twice a week.
    bye!
    sudha.
