Hello All, My nephew who is 2 1/2 years old was started preschool 3 month back. He was at home under his mom's care before that. As expected once he started going to school, he started getting sick and infection every week. Later he started getting weak day by day, stopped eating totally and even lost some pounds. We consulted his pedi and he said we have started him school too early and immunity will develop by 3 years. I found hard to believe it that within 6 months how can he develop immunity ? I am not sure if we have to go through same episode when we restart his schooling after 6 months. Any inputs please.. Regards, Malar
Hi Malar, My Paedtrician told me these: I was concerned about my son falling sick when I decided to send him to creche at 14 months. She told me that sooner or later they go to school and will have to develop immunity by falling sick and recovering from that. So it is a gradual process and is dependent on the kids. Generally the overall body resistance increases with age, very true, but 3 year I would say is not a benchmark
Though our immune system is constantly guarding us against various infectious micro-organisms, it does fail at times, because of which we fall ill. We can tackle this by adopting healthy lifestyle strategies like eating right, exercising and adequate sleep of 7-8 hours.
