    That is how one gets involved, get informed and will make it possible to elect better people.

    How many people even know what is happening with the working of the government other than the sensationalized news headlines?

    When we dont know what the Government is doing, we will never know what they are doing right and wrong and will be making the mistake of re electing them again and again.

    This is the age of information, age of Internet...even the politicians are online listening, talking....people are directly writing to them on FB and Twitter...no longer can we think talking is not enough.

    may b not now, but I have a better clarity now who I shouldn't vote for, if you believe each vote counts. The change might happen in the coming election...

    2014 elections were fought hard on these forums, on FB, Twitter and other social media platforms. :2thumbsup: It turned the tides. Congress crimes came out only now, they did not even understand what went wrong, how suddenly people found out so much about them and their crimes in the past 60yrs.

    Just like rumour enlightenment spreads as well... If a party or its politicians are criticized on medias, it does reach everyone.. Even the illiterates because that's its power.. Times r changing... Now every Indian have matured enof to understand what's happening around him, to think & evaluate his options. He is aware of all the scams too.. I donot altogether disagree that vote banks are gambled, yet any level of small participation is appreciable... Might help shape someone's opinion...

    Politics is a passion for me. I follow it like some others follow sports. But having been out of India for over a decade, I am not much familiar with Indian politics as well as US politics.

    The past two US Presidential elections, I followed every debate, every poll, ever scandal, every faux pas and even had some heart breaking moments. I made countess phone calls, attended get together on election nights, made political contributions, met the mayor of our city in one of those election night ( who was supporting my candidate), argued/ debated with friends, husband, dad- there is not much crazy stuff that I have not done. My best friend supported the opponent (in 2008) and her husband and I were on same team. We spent hours bitching about the opposing candidate and arguing with my friend. I still have not forgiven her for her betrayal :)

    I will be happy to discuss the 2016 US presidential politics. My only hesitance is I may very well differ from many others here with my views. Politics is a dangerous topic to discuss among friends (unless they are very close and you are confident your friendship is "politics proof" so I may be hesitant to share my views on that reason :)

    That Ms..Jayalalithaa is out is not because she is clean but because of the shocking yet calculative thought of 'so called' collective intellects that she is the only better option , by saying this I am not endorsing her as a better candidate, as of now compared with other political parties and their leaders. She undoubtedly has the "charisma" that her mentor and leader MGR had among the mass. Her cine background played an important role as well.

    Most of the voters consider that she is a far better corrupt(?!), far better leader, far better experienced in governance (?!) than all others who either are more corrupt and unworthy than her or least qualified, not necessarily educationally but definitely politically, to govern a state.

    People also have accepted that corruption and politics are two sides of the same coin.
    Thanks to the opponent party's mega corruption history, voters started sympathizing with the only influential woman politician of the state as of date. They also feel that like MGR, she is also the guardian of poor and destroyer of evil ! Cinematic, but this is the view of majority of voters. The prevailing vote bank politics results in this kind of political scenario.

    With the passing away of Rajagopalachari and K.Kamaraj , Statesman caliber of politics has ceased to exist at least in Tamilnadu. All now present are hard core selfish, mean ,power hungry politicians. One or two or maybe a handful of clean politicians, are still there. But they have no kind of influence on people , honestly. Most of them go un hailed and unnoticed. That is the pity with current scenario all over the nation.

    As far as AAP is concerned, people have been influenced on false grounds. No realistic approach to politics in general and governance in particular. All honest individuals need not be successful politicians. And I have my own doubts to the 'honest' title of Mr.Kejriwal. Seems to me a dictator ,childish..

    @kaniths , @Grihani , carry on !!!

    Regards,
    Pavithra

    @sdiva20 @1Sandhya @butterflyice Thanks for the positive responses.... :)

    I donot have much depth in US politics, except pertaining to US-India rel or US-Rest of the World issues.. And am totally against what US seems to b doing in Middle East, Since I Live here.

    So let's avoid controversial topics. Also if we discuss general, not core political topics, might make it easier for more members to contribute if not now, may b later too...

    Some topics that comes in mind are...

    US- Modi talks.
    European Union
    Inflation (India)
    Oil prices
    Economic Depressions
    Elections
    Women in Politics
    Social-Political issues? Like women empowerment, reservation (India), farmer suicide issues..etc...

    Or we can have an open thread, let anyone post their opinion about anything, people who r interested can discuss that over. Like how any gossip/movie thread works here?!!

    Any suggestions welcome!! :)
