The reason is simple. No one in India paid attention to having more factories producing vaccines. No one paid attention to stockpiling supplies used to make vaccine, some of them come from outside India. Most of India is dependent upon one company which as one factory in Pune.

In short, no one was worried about vaccination till it became a problem. It was taken for granted.

Old conversation from Independence campaign of 1948 when the Red Army was on the march towards Canton, liberating the nation along the way:

Mao-Tse-Tung: Do we have enough rice ?
Chou-en-Lai: Indeed we do. At the present rate of consumption, we'd be in Hong Kong before we run out of rice.
[Mao was pleased, and then thought some more about the situation...]
Mao-Tse-Tung: You mean to say that we have enough rice for the whole of the red army ?
Chou-en-Lai: No..no..not the red army. I was thinking of the two of us.

Now vaccination centres in Hyderabad are hotbeds for Covid with crowd jostling. Every centre is distributed only or 10 vaccines at 8 AM. Give 50 to 100. People start using up from early morning. Many come back. They are giving only for second dosers now. At this rate it would take years for all to be vaccinated. Meanwhile many many more cases and many more deaths. In paper they give all fake numbers. If this is the situation in state capital what is happening in villages one never knows!!!!

Information like this will increase individuals resistance to get vaccine. It isn't true it will take years. As country we have done vaccination before. I accept this is management but predicting something is true based on just fear is of no use. As help is coming from different parts of world and Serum fastening the production process the vaccinated population will increase to great extent. It isn't just Government fault. Many states wasted vaccines due to not enough people coming forward to get vaccines. We cannot blame the Government alone for this fiasco. I saw video of celebrity's daughter wedding in second week of April. Almost 80% of population didn't wear mask. Did Government force people to conduct marriages like this ? It is fault of both the system and the citizens.

It is not Govt.'s fault!!!!!! I am surprised!!!!!

A large part of the blame lies on the Govt - the messaging it sent was very wrong.

When they declared victory prematurely, speeches given about how good a job they early part of the year, about how they could not only take care of themselves but also of neigbours , why wouldnt the citizens follow ? This even as other countries were hit badly by a second wave.

Wedding in April - not surprised, if you looked at the election rallies in March , they were no different from election rallies in preCovid times, perhaps the one small difference was some had masks under their chin. If that could be allowed what moral ground did they have to say no crowds at weddings?

Not one political party had the guts to talk about it, even when the numbers began increasing in March - people wanted to deal with this after the elections, winning the elections is far more important than Covid19.

This is the the same govt that implemented an unprecedented lock down overnight, that could galvanise people to support. It could have handled it better if it wanted to. Even with this level of rampage by the disease, with experts calling for a national lockdown, the govt is somehow inert. Hiding the real death count, telling let us focus on the positives, denying any shortages , blaming social media for its malaise, if this isnt failure of governance what is?

And the saddest part is, if there is one Indian govt (in the past 50 years) that could have handled this , it is the Modi govt. They have the support of people , the strength and the audacity to do it. If they wanted to . And that is why it is such a shame

Medical stuff o2 vaccines from donors from abroad all received and cleared from landed ports waiving off barriers like customs and other checks and logistics arranged with accompanying securities. State wise allocated quantum for distribution going on smoothly and number of states confirmed receipts.
Logistics concerns heard and attended. Stand resolved in many states as they even arranged green corridors as they do for organs donated for transplants. In last 24 hours channel reports are encouraging.
