Having read Mills &Boons, Silhouette romance, Harlequin, Barbara Cartland etc when we were teenagers or even early 20's, is understandable. We needed fodder for the dreams the young mind wove. Or to escape some reality or strict upbringing, or whatever.

Why do women in the 25+ or ever 30+ age group read such romantic fiction? The kind that comes with a predictable formula, set number of pages and filled with cliches.

While on the topic, share names of any romantic fiction authors you particularly like or liked to read. And what was your favorite plot or setting?

Nice thought-provoking thread @Rihana M'am  I would say we read them because they make us feel good even if we know they are just stories just like we love watching Titanic or our own DDLJ any number of times :p

My all-time favorite is Atlas Shrugged by Ayn Rand, love the way she handled romance, more mature and made of steel :D

They read even after 30+ bcos, that boosts up their endorphins and makes them feel young. Or, the romance in the marriage has taken a back seat, and they resort to the good old books, to give them that feel good factor.
And speaking of romance, I like Darcy from pride and prejudice. With a tinge of shrewdness

Aiyooo JAW... was talking about pulp/junk romantic fiction. The kind with titles like 'The Sheikh's Revenge' or 'Last Resort Dance' 'His Runaway Bride', 'Baby Makes Three', and the ones you may not want to be seen reading on Kindle in economy class of an airplane. :)

I nag my dh to be more romantic rather than end up with a romantic novel. Why should we waste our privileges of demanding romance. After all, we are married!! o_Oo_O

Ahem. At times when DH is travelling or busy in front of his lappy and I feel like it I pick up a novel or watch a nice movie :p

Life is often beautifully symmetrical. :) Reading a book can make the wife's mood romantic.

Idea for next thread: "Respect cannot be demanded, can romance be?" :) :)
