Dear Chithra, I too welcome the Vedanta principles topic. I have no time to know any thing about such things now, at least I could enlighten myself by reading your spiritual threads. Pl do provide us some knowledge about that also. Thanks for sharing so many things. With warm wishes, varloo
Long time doubt Dear Chitra madam, I read thru your article and it is excellent. I have a doubt madam. Before marriage I used to put both black and brown stickers. But after marriage whenever I put Black stickers my motherinlaw shouts at me that we married ladies are supposed to put brown bindis onlyand black is not good for our husbands. Is there any significant meaning in this Madam ? Thanks in advance Lakshmi
My dear Lakshmi ! The significance is purely social & not religious. Many people consider red as auspicious & black & white as inauspicious, tending to associate those 2 colours with mourning ! In fact, in Kerala black bindi is very common. Since red is the colour of kumkumam, many prefer to wear red or maroon bindi, to look like kumkumam. I think, it is better to go by your MIL's wishes, not going against her wishes & not hurting her. It is not worth it ! Love & regards, Chithra.

Re: significance of keeping bindi or pottu hi pavithra, The spot is the seat of memory and thinking. The entire body emanates energy in the form of electromagnetic waves, the forehead and the subtle spot between the eyes especially so.The tilak or pottu or chandan also cools the forehead and prevents energy loss. Just use your finger and touch the centre of your eyebrows, will understand that is the point of concentration. there was a better explanation at this link. may be it will be useful in your talk. Living with Siva, Chapter 45: Palaces of the Gods hope it helps. love shanthi

Re: significance of keeping bindi or pottu Dear Pavitra There is a detailed article in wikipedia regarding the significance of bindi or pottu or bottu. There it is stated that the area between the eyebrows (where the bindi is placed) is said to be the sixth chakra , agni, the seat of "concealed wisdom". According to followers of tantrism, this chakra is the exit point for kundalini energy. The bindi is said to retain energy and strengthen concentration. It is also said to protect against demons or bad luck. Love Varudhini
