    Awadhesh Prasad of the Samajwadi Party (48.59% votes) defeated Lallu Singh (43.81% votes) of the BJP in the Faizabad constituency of UP. Ayodhya is located in this constituency.

    Why this happened?

    Yes, this was a real shock , as it was expected with all the Ram mandir fervour and people having accepted it with open hearts, in the way the mandir was flooded with people ever since it opened for public . However it is clear that the SP candidate played to the ranks holding out promises of compensating the people there locally who would had their property - houses /shops demolished etc to make way for the mandir. Although they would all have been compensated by the Govt, all freebies and short term benefits are always eyed by the downtrodden, and this has been very well utilised to garner votes, Cant think of any other reason. Similar is the situation in Tamilnadu . A person of Annamalai calibre could not win there.

    Last thing India needs is building this temple . I’m sorry we have enough and I don’t believe in all these isha foundation and Ram mandir taking up local resources and building these humongous facilities. India is filled with rich architectures and temples already .
    Secondly temple construction was done mostly to satisfy the ego of RSS . Minorities shouldn’t be made to feel threatened with these new buildings .
    I’m glad that bjp as a party failed to get majority without coalition. For people who don’t remember history, I still remember reading the incident in Gujarath in Hindu editorial as a teen. I’m really against religion and power coming together . I hope Naidu and Nitish have control over some of the policies made during next 5 year term.
    IMO vajpayee was a better leader than Modi . I still remember the day when he lost the majority . He was right man in wrong place . I wish he had an opportunity to continue his term.
    Coalition is always good since it helps policies which are purely done to boost image of pm to be on check .

    @jayasala42
    What was interesting is Vanathi Srinivasan was able to win against Kamala Hassan.
    Annamalai did a poor job of running the party . Lot of people left bjp in TN .
    No offense but other than being in media in airports he didn’t make any impact
    Second splitting of vote bank with eps and bjp going in diff direction. That was wrong move . You need to be united against dmk since they are ruling party . H. Raja did a better job than this Annamalai. Complete washout is bad for the state since no central project or funding will come . There will be no representation in cabinet ministry . It is unfortunate thing since it derails the development of state .

    I can agree with this anonymously. If I dare voice my opinion I will not be welcome in my parents’ or sibling’s homes. :grinning:

    Simple. Ayodhyawasi properties taken for widening and building roads and they were probably poorly compensated and expected freebies did not materialise even before the election day! One of the opinions I read was that instead temple had mosque been rebuilt by govt BJP would hv got 400 + easily sitting snugly in Delhi.

    Warning: it is not about BJP candidate vanquished at Faziabad.

    A beautiful article from New York Times STATING contrarian views while many of indian media and tv channels deplore or praise the status of winning or losing the election by candidates.
    THE INDIAN ELECTIONS -
    It is truly the greatest show on Earth, an ode to a diverse & democratic ethos, where 700 million + of humanity vote, providing their small part in directing their ancient civilization into the future.
    It is no less impressive when done in a neighborhood which includes de-stabilizing & violent Pakistan, China, and Burma.
    It's challenges are immense, more so probably than anywhere else, particularly in development & fending off terrorism -- but considering these challenges & its neighbors, it is even more astounding that the most diverse nation on Earth, with hundreds of languages, all religions & cultures, is not only surviving, but thriving.
    The nation:
    where Hinduism, Buddhism, Jainism & Sikhism were born,
    which is the second largest Muslim nation on Earth;
    where Christianity has existed for 2000 years;
    where the oldest Jewish synagogues & Jewish communities have resided since the Romans burnt their 2nd temple;
    where the Dalai Lama & the Tibetan government in exile reside;
    where the Zoroastrians from Persia have thrived since being thrown out of their ancient homeland;
    where Armenians, Syrians & many others have come to live; where the Paris-based OECD said was the largest economy on Earth for 1500 of the last 2000 years, including the 2nd largest, only 200 years ago;
    where 3 Muslim Presidents have been elected,
    where a Sikh was Prime Minister & the head of the ruling party a Catholic Italian woman,
    where the past President was also a woman, succeeding a Muslim President who as a rocket scientist is a hero in the nation;
    where a booming economy is lifting 40 million out of poverty each year & is expected to have the majority of its population in the middle class already, equal to the entire US population, by 2025;
    where its optimism & vibrancy is manifested in its movies, arts, economic growth & voting, despite all the incredible challenges & hardships;
    where all the great powers are vying for influence, as it itself finds its place in the world.
    Where all of this is happening, is India and as greater than 1/10th of humanity gets ready to vote, it is an inspiration to the entire World.

    I just saw a video clip on TV now, showing a group of the WINNING side in Tamilnadu, slaughtering a Goat tied with Annamalai's name on it , in the middle of a wide road, which has been circulated in media. This is the nature of people who we are supposed to be proud of , of having voted in favour!

    If that is not fake video in viral then it must be taken as fine augury(!) for things to come by sun-set.
    Robbing Peter to Pay Pal would be the next step.
    Right now Annamalai is busy in Kovai showing his wrath against ADMK . He was seen in channel telling BJP is a child that is learning to crawl and it would take time for baby to take tottering steps, walk steadily and run. He said the results will be telling after assembly election.
