    Hi,

Tuna fish is having high mercury content. I saw it from a report. but that has been done in US. I am not sure of tuna fishes which we get in india.

Moreover tuna fish is having good amount of omega 3 fatty acids which is essential of brain development.

Limit the fish intake to 3 to 4 pieces daily.

    Hi,

I am a bengali....that means we have fish everyday. U can have any sweet water fish during pregnancy as they dont have a risk of mercury content. I used to have fish everyday during my pregnancy after 3rd month(before that I had horrible nausea and I turned a complete vegetarian as I couldnt stand the smell of any non-veg food).

Some sweet water fish u can take are :-
    1. Rohu - One Big piece once or even twice a day. In weekends I used to have fish in lunch and dinner :bonk
2.Pabda or Puptai (in Hindi) - Its a small fish....so one full fish once a day
    3. Catfish (Sangot in Hindi)
    4. Hilsa - Available only in monsoons. Not more than one piece a day. Its a little heavy on the stomach and during pregnancy ur digestive system works slower than usual.

Safe salt water fishes would be :-
    1. Pomfret - One fish a day
    2. Prawns - As u like it :bonk

    Hope that helps.

Avoid big mackerel, king fish and shark. Sardines are excellent fish.

    Heyy Rachana.....

Firstly CHILL bebe! There are no specific utensils that u need to use to cook fish. U can cook it in your regular ones.
Morola....yes u can have it at this time. U can also have Puti fish(bengali name). These are tiny tiny fishes...very cute ones :bonk.....just deep fry them and have it with Dal-Rice. I love them. Had a lot during my pregnancy.

If u put the fishes in the freezer to store them(which u should technically put also)....u can have them upto 2 weeks. When I was pregnant the locality we stayed....the fish market was pretty far....so my husband used to go twice a month and get different types of fishes in large quantities. I used to store them upto 2 weeks in the freezer. They used to stay perfect.

Hmm....so u are a new non-veg....Welcome to the CLUB :thumbsup Now u will realise a whole new world of awesome options in food. Am saying this as I am a hard core non-veg and I love it! :)

It doesnt matter.....u can use any of them! I preserve in Ziplock pouches but have seen MIL storing it in containers. I store in pouches as I break the fishes pieces for each day and store in different pouches....juts take one out and cook. Simple for me considering the fact that I am a working Mom and am always cramped for time.

    Take care,
    Priyanka

Thanks Priyanka for your information. I am new to Indusladies.com. Me being a bengali can connect to your description very well. I am a big fish lover and now 6 months pregnant. I have been searching for the benefits of all the bengali type fishes that we usually have. Thanks again.
