Hi devotee...by investment you mean into stocks or mutual funds...

what your friend would have meant would have been the market was at a high last week touching new levels of 20k..and also very volatile...that it was a selllers (booking profit...) and not a buying market...

but from an investor point...you cannot time the market...if so nobody would have losses right..it is more on how much of a risk taking capacity you have.

start with a small amount. study the market, the companies you like...then the analysis of whether that company is strong fundamentally...and also whether you are looking at short/long or easy profit...

    all the best....

    Hi shanvy,
    Thanks for replying.
I want to invest in MFs... Can I invest now since market is volatile?
    Also, which are good schemes?
What is the difference between growth and dividend schemes?

You can invest any time.To think about the markets whether they are going up or down is not for the beginners. What you need now is some surplus money and the right BOLDNESS TO VENTURE.
Dont enter into the markets thinking that you can make a fast buck within a few days.Safe players do not have such views.
What I can suggest to you from my market experiance over the past 30 yrs or so....buy some scrips which will be safe for you always. This can be your first step.As you get hold of these scrips then you will learn how to keep a track on them.First timers need not speculate unless and other wise they have some one who is Trust worthy and very knowledgeable.
To day market is very big and there is a big flow of information on all matters. So one has to pick and choose.
I will suggest you to buy Sundaram Fastners .I am a shareholder in this company for the past several yrs.Apart from Good regular Dividends this company comes out with good bonus issues. It is ISO rated company with professional management.Recently they have ventured into Chinese market also by opening a Factory there to take advantage of the cost. This will add to the companys kitty soon which inturn will benefit the shareholders.Sundaram fast...is qouting @Rs.48/-now .This is a very good buy @ this price.buy 1000 shares at regular intervals as and when the share comes down.
Hold it for the next 2-3 yrs and see how you are benefitted.
