Like with in-laws you say something or do something , they keep it in their pockets and then will taunt you about it later or worse bring it up infront of your husband or guests. It’s probably better not to talk?

S if you are quite person and don't want to fire back if some one speaks about you infront of sime one better be quite , because if you say in a right way and if u don't hav any intention they wil think in another way and show it to others in another way which is very easy to them and you be in shock at the moment and wil realise it later but by the time damage already done..

Not talking at all ... I don't know if that's possible.

My suggestion would be to - talk very less and stick to neutral topics like weather, entertainment, food, news & current events and such other safe topics.

Perhaps there is a risk in not talking at all.
Im a very reserved person, dont talk much at all - even in college, office or in my inlaws place.
I remember, early in my married life, my FIL, MIL, SIL and BIL (sometimes DH too) would sit and talk bad things about others (from neighbours and friends to politicians/film stars). Mostly untrue rumours and gossiping.
I would not contribute anything to such conversations and sit quietly.
My inlaws complained to DH - your wife is so arrogant!!!

Keep the conversations to neutral topics - that would be my advise too.

    Kind Regards,
    AM.
