First, during the stage of my life when I acquired wealth and resources. But that didn’t feel happy enough. Second, when I could buy things and valuables with my wealth. That was also temporary. Third, when I was honoured to become the owner of the largest steel factory in India and Asia. But even that achievement didn’t bring me the happiness I imagined. Then one day one of my friends requested me for sponsoring 200 wheelchairs for an institution and I agreed to that. But he insisted I personally accompany him to the place and gift the children myself. As I reached the place and started to give away their wheelchair gifts, I saw the faces of the kids beam with happiness to receive the greatest gift of their life. And one child touched my leg in respect and even though I tried to release my leg, the child did not let go, he looked at my face and held my legs tighter. I asked the child if they need anything else and the child replied. “I want to remember your face so that when I meet you in heaven, I can recognize you and thank you once again." That was the fourth time I felt happiness. And unlike other times, I felt truly and completely happy that time.” Ratan Tata Sir shared one of the most valuable lessons for us all through sharing his story. True happiness is in giving for other people’s happiness and being valued for the legacy we leave when we die.

Google is a good option.. also the shopkeepers/cashiers at most smaller wine/spirit shop are usually happy to offer suggestions on what is good in the price range you pick.

 

No, we did not. Neither did any of our friends or relatives.
According to me it is not the norm. It is neither expected nor required. It’s nice of you to buy them scotch or chocolates but unnecessary in my opinion. Many people don’t drink or have allergies etc. They may not have felt the need to share that info with you leading to some awkwardness.

In my experience what realtors, agents and builders really appreciate is politeness, responsiveness and consideration when dealing with them. And a good credit rating and prompt payments ! And recommendations. They really really like that. Put up a glowing recommendation on their yelp or other feedback form the day before you meet them and see the difference. They will be so so very happy! And tell them personally in detail how much you loved working with them, they are the best and that you are going to tell all your friends about them. That’s something they really value. Can’t emphasize this enough.

 

This is for real. This is trendy. Old timers in India too would endorse this modern trend. I sent a letter of platitudes to one of popular realtors and their man in full suit next day arrived at home with gift bouquet and a pass for allowing 2+2 family members to a music programme by an artist of international acclaim at music academy hall which they sponsored. When with family we reached the venue, we were delighted to be escorted to a huge tabernacle where numerous varities of snacks, sweets and food including desserts were in display. Exquisite
Food carvings and awesome angels clad in silk and perfume welcomed leaving us in a palatable daze! All that food & beverage free.
