    Hi all,
There is varalakshmi vratam followed both my mother side and my husband side. Due to health issues I may not be able to do it.

My question is, often here the married ladies who do this vratam/pooja give thambulam which has yellow mangalsutram thread (not to be confused ... I'm not talking about the yellow thread that we tie on right hand after vratam. I'm here talking about the yellow rope thread given by married ladies in thambulam esp for mangalsutram).

    Any experienced ladies have idea?
Btw in our side we usually wear thaali made of golden chain with 2 circular discs and few black beads on either side (telugu tradition).

So what to do with this yellow thread?

Hi thanks...i know it has to be used in mangalsutram.
But how? Usually we wear gold chain which is connected to yellow thread in which the thaalis n black beads are put and tord to abother end of gold chain.

So how to use this yellow thread given in thamboolam? Or is to be used when the existing yellow thread holding the thalis connected to gold chain breaks?

It's not compulsory to use. Some cut 2 small threads and tie and 2 ends of the thali close to beads

Even in ours the thaali is gold chain so we don’t wear yellow thread along with it. I remember my mom used to just store it separately..

You can keep it in the pooja drawer. If you already have a gold mangalsutra you do not have to use the yellow thread. As for all the other 'nombu-kayaru' we used to put them on the tulsi plants after wearing for several days but I don't know if this is correct for the new thali thread.
I would also ask elders in your family in case you have some special traditions.

Keep in puja nook at home.
Everyone may not go for an annual physical exam; but many do. And often this may involve breast cancer screening.. On the day of the exam, early in the morning (or whenever it is auspicious), have your husband tie that yellow thread around your neck, and remove the gold/blackbeads necklace to keep in a safe place for a day. After the medical exam is over, you will be in celebratory mode. Get married again with your dh putting the gold/blackbeads around your neck, and removing the yellow thread for storage until needed again for a medical exam.

M not that traditional. I actually dont even wear my mangalsutra daily. My family is also quite liberal and modern so they dont know much either.
Dh fanily is quite orthodox bt i dont dont ask inlaws any queries. Haha.
