There is a Tamil song in praise of Shanmukha:
"Naal en seyum vinai thaan en seyum enai naadi vanda
kol enseyum Kodunkootren seyum Kumaresar iru
    thaalum silambum sadhangaiyum thandaiyum shanmukhamum
    Tholum kadambum enakkumunne vandhu thondridine"

Forget it and just get on with things. What is Rahu Kala in these days of global village. Tuesday in Ca is Wednesday in Chennai. East and West are purely location specific. Irrelevant to the All Pervading, call it Durga or whatever else.
What burnt is just a chromo print. How can the personification of Jyoti be burnt?
Directions do not matter. These are all man made concepts. Is not Dhakshinamurthy, the consort of Durga, himself facing South?

    Hi Priya,

Though mine is a late reply, still i would like to share this with you. Good that you were able to get a similar picture of the Godess.

If you believe god is everywhere then why do you worry about directions? He / She is there in every direction, in every being. So don't worry. There are people who throws the calendar with god's picture in the bin after it expires. Also there are people who keep on accumulating such pictures and hang it every where in their house. It's basically as per one's belief. If you see a stone in the temple, then it is a stone. if you see a god in it, then it is the god.

You have not done anything purposely. It's only an accident, hence no need to worry. To punish is human and to forgive is god. God never punishes anyone, all the problems and sufferings come as per our Karma (good deeds and bad deeds in this birth or previous birth). Don't worry about your MIL. Your peace of mind is in your hands. Pray to god wholeheartedly. Feel him / her near you. Definitely the almighty will be with you, guide you and save you. All the best.
