What should be the gender of the boss?

In an organization or official setup both male and female employees work together and boss is the only one to control these unlucky fellows! When asked, different people will say different things about the quality of the boss, different aspects of the boss like intelligence, managing capacity, personality, behaviour, attitude (authoritarian/democratic), etc. These factors are highly responsible for the success of a boss in a work place and his popularity among subordinates. But what about the gender of the boss? Does the opposite gender bring in more success. What do the female subordinates want-a male boss or a female boss? Then what do the male employees prefer? There might be some reasons for such type of preferences. Although an employer appoints both male and female workers/ employees for his organization, employees prefer either a male boss or a female boss (non officially in their hearts!) for different reasons. What are they? Your comments are heartily welcome. :bowdown

    Hi Padma777!
In my opinion the gender of the boss is immaterial! At first there may be resentment about a woman boss but if she is strong and has good people skills and other managerial abilities, etc slowly she will be accepted and her gender will vanish. Our research center is lead by a lady Director and she is doing a fantastic job! I guess it all depends on the personality of the person

Honestly I would like to work with a Male boss. The reason is I had a very bad experience with a female boss once. JMO.

I agree with Kamala. Being a jerk is not a gender-specific trait :biglaugh

I have seen good and bad bosses in both males and females. In the end, it boils down to the character and personality of the individual.

I have had a (only) female boss and she is the best boss i have had till date. In my last project also, i had a male boss who is a good person and a very good mentor. The current boss i have is a real jerk and i just cant wait to move on to a new job.

Does the gender really matters ? I have worked with bosses of both the gender. I found it comfortable as long as they are understanding and co-operative.

With my experience, I feel the gender should never be considered atleast where the work is more intellectual based/analytical based.

May be on physical work, the expectation might matter.

I always worked well with Male boss. Working with female boss was total disaster.

Thanks to all for their comments. Sometimes I have gone through the plight of my friends (ladies) who are having different types of jobs. They are of the opinion that their female boss has no sympathy for their problems. When someone wants to go home early because she has a small child staying alone with the maid servant, then her boss never allows her to go early and gives her own example that she herself (the boss) is also a female. But since boss is the authority, she gets office vehicle and my friend is the subordinate and she has not got that privilege. She has to go home by the private bus. So when the boss sets example of herself then she forgets that she has a office vehicle and a driver supplied to her by virtue of her power and position which her subordinates have not. Although I dont believe in gender bias, personal incidents make one to think like this. It is the duty of the boss to look into the problems of subordinates when they are badly in need of that. Thank u all.
