What is water chestnut ??

Hi ,
Can someone tell me what is the meaning of water chestnut ? Is it OK for pregnant women to eat ? Does it produce heat like mango or pineapple ??
My husband got some frozen vegetable packets which has water chestnut in it . I am in my first trimester now and I am worried to eat something that I am not sure of.

Water chestnut is what is called Sinhgada in India. You get the black boiled chestnuts in the market in India.

It is used in Chinese stir fry and is damn tasty. I have no idea if pregnant women should eat chestnut or not.
