What is the purpose of going to a gynecologist if you have never dated, been married?

Good Evening,

I hope everyone is having a Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays.

This post is an off-shoot from a post in another forum (http://www.indusladies.com/forums/nature-cure/79058-natural-ways-to-regulate-thyroid.html).

I visited a male doctor day-before-yesterday and he advised that I visit a gynecologist. Perhaps he sensed that I was not comfortable being examined by him and maybe he was hinting that I see a female doctor?

My question is, I am 30 years old, never dated, never married (currently my family is searching aggressively for a groom in USA and India, but that is another post), so what is the purpose of going to a gynecologist? Is there any preventative tests they can prescribe for instance? Or was the doctor trying to hint that I should see a female doctor? Please give your viewpoints.

Could be to get a pap smear done for cervical cancer testing. I don't think it is necessary to be sexually active to get it.

Vaginal infections - these can happen due to dietary/hormonal imbalances.

Lumps in breast - again, sexual activity not required.

In short, that is a part of your body that is doing something even though you are not doing anything with it. Good to make sure it is in good condition.

me too agree with confused211.....i think u need a gynea check up ...so that doctor said like that...
