The official 1L can be easily worn on the person. A few grams on the ears, and a couple of chains on the neck can easily cover as well as exceed that limit in current day gold prices.

I was in desh not too long ago, and surprise...surprise... there was neither the arrival-info-slip nor the customs-form that was filled out by us in the foreigners-queue, and we were stamped in with just a look, and a photo with their countertop camera thing.

In Pondy Azar at Chennai, jewels (covering) available on hire hourly basis too. Many brides hire and as soon as the three knot tying is over, a cousin or some one would get back to stores returning the hired jewels and collect nominal deposit/ settle hire charges.
