'ப்ரதக்ஷிணம்'-த்தில் 'ப்ர' என்பது பாபங்களின் நாசனத்தையும், 'த' என்றால் கோரிக்கைகளை தீர்க்கவும் , 'க்ஷி' என்றால் அடுத்த ஜன்மத்தில் நல்ல ஜன்மா வேண்டும் என்றும், 'ண' என்றால் அக்ஞானத்தை ஒழித்து ஆத்ம ஞானத்தை தரவேண்டும் என்றும் ஆலயத்தில் பகவானை சுற்றி வரும் ப்ரதக்ஷிணத்திற்கு இவ்வளவு அர்த்தங்கள் உண்டு. முன்பு ஒரு முறை விநாயகர் பார்வதி பரமேஸ்வரர்களை சுற்றி ப்ரதக்ஷிணம் செய்து உலகத்தை ப்ரதக்ஷிணம் செய்த பலனை பெற்றார். ஆதலால் பகவானை சுற்றி ப்ரதக்ஷிணம் செய்தால் உலகத்தை ப்ரதக்ஷிணம் செய்த பலன் கிட்டும். ஆத்ம ப்ரதக்ஷிணம் ஆகும். பகவானே! நான் அனைத்து திக்குகளிலிருந்தும் உன்னையே த்யானிக்கிறேன் என்று அர்த்தம்

Pradakshina, the simple meaning without all those Hi-fi Sanskrit jargans is that, Dakshinam means Going by the right or Going towards south. if you take your right hand and start making circles with it, in a natural direction then the circle you get will be a clockwise one (If some scientists try to think that we can make anti clockwise circles also using Right hand, then for such scientists, the natural movement of the right hand is outwards of the body which is right and for the left hand it is leftwards of the body).
So, Dakshinam means going by the right and the word "Pra" means Divine or Blessed..
For example
1. Sangam means union, prasangam means union where Divinity is discussed.
2. Desh means a big chunk of land or a place, Pradesh is a place where everything flourish and live
3. Vachan means statement, pravachan means a discourse or divine statements..
Hence Pra + Dakshinam = coming around in a clockwise movement for some divine purpose or coming around in clockwise movement around divine body (Like Idols, Trees etc)
