Hi, Do the schools have different rates for NRIs/ Foreign citizens of Indian origin compared to Indian students? I can't seem to find a straight forward answer. Also what happens to the students who are US citizens if they continue beyond +2 in India? Will they be accepted as Indian students or would they have to pay the fees as foreign nationals. I don't see any info in this space as every university seems to have it's own rules. I guess people doing a R2I need to be aware of hte long term implications. Appreciate any inputs Thanks Lakshmi
Lakshmi, Most of the university consider USC as USC and they are required to pay fees in US$. but if you are just a returning NRI, and your kid studies in india from the 7th and upwards, he can try to get into universities and colleges without paying the exoribitant fees. this is what i have understood. some of the so called eclectic and great deemed university, give you special application form if you are a NRI. No wonder, last week there was a 4 page edupreneurs article in the hindu..
Shanvy, Thanks for the reply. There does not seem to be a uniform rule across Unis. The kids being USC, i guess we are in trouble. We will to weigh our options or keep the option of the kids taking SAT and doing their UG in the US. I will look at the article you have mentioned in the Hindu. Thanks again Shanvy. Shanvy, if you are based around in Adambakkam i would love to catch up with you in person. Regards Lakshmi
Lakshmi, I try to keep track of what i write here, for fear of misguiding somebody, but still mistakes can happen. but i am sure the nri quota is different for example here is annauniversities.. Student Affairs - Anna University There is a scheme called DASA..direct admission of students from abroad where the fees are fixed .google for the same. A total of a 30 reputed NITs, 2 IIT (trichy is one of them i think) and a few private engineering colleges are also covered under this scheme. Annual fee is about $7000+ and is likely to increase.. Since many parents would not be aware of this i take this thread to bring in the available options here.look at the dasa scheme details here DASA-2011 ( Direct Admission to Students Abroad )
