Seems to be silly, but can one escape?

Somehow, both can not die at the same time, and though there was a Sati Pratha, that was only for wives; thankfully, it is illegal now, though it does happen in some states of India. This was not such a rule for husbands, much as some would have liked.
The past is gone; let us talk of the present.

Been to a home where friend of mine expired . When I attempted with comforting words, friend’s wife responded saying, “I have lost the World” which has caused tear jerked from my eyes.
In present day too, despite higher education and influence of western culture, in many parts of India one finds if the old spouse expires, the widow or widower too expires in a space of few months. Losing partner of life causes immense pressure on heart and their soul which eventually cry & leave the body.
Sathi practice of past brings to mind the courage, guts and profound love of affected Lady entering into the burning pyre. Rajputs comes to mind. A queen of Rajasthan along with hubby fought with British soldiers and before they could capture her, she enters the flames that was burning body of her soul mate! Wonder What kind of thoughts run in the mind of the lady in such a situation. A macabre practice-an eerie silence and horrible world.

I have also seen the widow or widower not living longer after the death of the spouse, but their % is much lower. In most cases, they adjust to the new reality, some joining old age homes for company or engaging themselves in some social activities. There have been many cases of remarrying for the sake of the company and taking care of each other.
Sati Pratha was a curse on women. In fact, the very wish of dying before the husband was part of the Saubhgyawati Bhavah blessing.

I agree here which is the case with young couple.
Your mention of "Sowbhagyavathi bhawa" reminds me of my mom who expired on Boxer's Day and the following 10th March my dad followed her.

“Love does not retire love does not get old”
The above phrase taken out from fb at #6 of this thread.

It is true love’s labour’s not lost. Despite regular arguments and verbal pyrotechnics even at ripe age, couples seen going hand in hand with fingers entwined in public places.
This reminds me a story with surprise judgement. It is in link below:
