Hi Tagor - If possible sprout the ragi and whole moong dal and then dry roast them in a kadai and then finely powder them. If you can't sprout them, you can just dry roast them and then cool and powder fine. You can use that as Kanji flour. Our Chitvish has given the recipe for Kanji, see if it will work for you:

Sharada and Dew - many thanks for your tips.

This is what I have been feeding the past few days:
Breakfast: Cereal with milk, Thayir idli, Thayir dosai, Ragi Kanji
Lunch: paruppu sadam and Rasam with sabji ( carrot, potato, avial )
Snack: Cookies, pottukadalai, cheese string, dry cereal, fruits( apple, grapes, pear )
Dinner: Curd rice with dry narthangai pickle, alphabet pasta, adai, mashed potatoes

    Snack-Oranges,cereal or milk and cereal

Lunch-Mixed dal dosas(urad+masoor dal+moongdal with tomato-carrot chutney) and curdrice or just 1/2cup plain Yogurt .

    Snack-Milk,cheese/veggie omlette

Dinner-Peas pulao with yogurt and some fruits if he likes to have

    cheers,

    Hello vaishnavilakshmi,
My son is too near his 3yrs,he will be 3 in august..i liked ur diet plan for ur son, wanted to ask as u mentioned u give a gap of 2 to 31/2 hours for next feed,so is he comfortable in taking it ,as i too am doing the same way ,but according to my husband this way he is munching the whole day,as i too feel this and i feel he really getting a habit of asking me again and again something to eat...as according to weight he is gd not over or down..so how do u manage it as u too r following the same pattern....

    Thanks

    Hi Kads,

Yeah u are also right, that they will be munching all the time. But it is always a good practise to have food for every 3hours.Incase he does not take enough food in previous meal,i will adjust accordingly in next or alternate meal.I adjusted his the schedule accroding to his play school timings.Generally his schedule is

8.30-Brush and breakfast/milk and will have his snack at school .
between 10-30 and 11-snack(could be milk or fruit or bread or yogurt or homemade juice etc)

    b/w -12.30 and 1-Lunch

3.30-snack like friut/juice/milk/omlette etc(optional).he may or may not have or just juice.

    between 6.30 and 7-dinner

    10.00-Milk

    11.30-Brush and go to bed

This is his schedule for timebeing.I recently (3weeks back)stopped nursing. He is being cranky all the time. When i asked his pediatrician, she told it is good practise to adjust the feeds for all the kids and ofcourse parents too for every 3hours.My son was always on 95 -100 percentile in terms of height and weight. So this diet practise would actually regulate and give him balanced growth. Whether he eats or not i serve, just to make it a practise. But i take care that i brush his teeth regularly and especially after juices, made him a habbit to rinse his mouth after every serving of snack or meal .And i should make it a standard habbit that he has it at every 3hours.Just trying to do that. But this way i end up in kitchen all the time!Even a small slice of fruit is also okay.Initially when i started this practise,he was asking me for every hour to 1.5hour..Slowly i made it as a practise from 2 to 3.5hours.They might ask ,but when u put them to play and divert ,they will forget soon.

    Cheers,
    Vaishu

This is a great thread! lots of wonderful ideas to try.

My son is 22 months and had oatmeal with raisins for breakfast, methi paratha with honey for lunch and wheat dosai with mashed banana in it for dinner.

he likes mild sweet and no spicy food, i have been trying to make him eat dhal with rice, subzi etc which we make for ourselves.

    hello priya,
Pls don't get scared of feeding children. If your child refuse to have the meal you give, pls try out some other recipe with the same ingredient and make it colourful. children love colourful foods.
As your daughter is now 1, you can start egg white for her. (scrambled egg with a pinch of salt). If not, try out egg pudding. you can try side dishes like sambar( not more spicy), honey, dhal with dosa, rather giving it with only milk. All the bests priya.

    regards
