Hmm, I always have something in stock, because I fall into such situation not only for an unexpected guest, but with my kids itself.. Sometimes, I will be lazy or end up waking along with the kids. I won't have time to cook a full meal with kids around. So, I have the following things ready at home, when I don't feel like cooking or when I am running short of time, just to prevent from going outside to eat. Instant Rava Idly (MTR Instant Rava Idly Mix, turns out very well, soft too), served with Ghee or Yogurt Macroni and Cheese (prepares in 5 minutes) Maggi Noodles (5 minutes) Bread and Mixed Fruit Jam, Butter (5 minutes or when we are in a hurry to go out) Bread and Amul Cheese (Grilled Sandwich) with a cup of Tang Orange Juice (have Tang Powder at home) Idly Batter or Dosa Batter (either one of them will be in the fridge for sure) Avocadoes with Yogurt (My daughter loves it and its very filling too) Bread with Tomato Onion Salsa (I always have Salsa at home, because when I don't have anything to eat, I eat the bread or leftover roti with salsa , as it is of very less calories) Oats Porridge with Milk and dry fruits and nuts or Oats porridge with plenty of yogurt Cheese Quesdilla (store bought roti with cheese) with Tomato Salsa (store bought) Ghee Dosa Yogurt Rice garnished with seasonings, nuts and raisins. Egg Omlette Peas Pulav or Jeera Rice in Rice Cooker (Prepared with Frozen Peas) Basically, I stock the following in my Kitchen (for lazy days). MTR Instant Rava Idly Mix Macaroni and Cheese Maggi Noodles Kissan Mixed Fruit Jam Amul Butter Tomato Ketchup Wheat Bread Packet Idly Batter or Dosa Batter Salsa (ready made) Avocadoes (5 to 6 in the fridge) Hummus (in the fridge, its for me) Oats Eggs Frozen Peas Bread Shredded Cheese
Kamla / knbg!!! I am honoured, flattered and ecstatic !!!! :cheers I've never had anyone nominate me before Thank you thank you very very much  Kamla, thats why I started this post... I stock a few ready stuff and whenever I have time, I prepare the stuff that takes too long, but if kept in fridge, final item is ready in minutes like, right now, I have long green chillis stuffed with peanut/til/ajwain masala in the fridge - because it is weekend - if someone drops in, all I have to do is roast in tawa for 2 minutes on either side and hot stuffed chilli ready for snacks or with rice !!! If no guest comes, we as a family can finish it in 2 or 3 days Thanx Rihana, Even I thought about making this a sticky thread, because it will remain as a reference maybe the induslady or moderators will answer !!!
