week ends getaways around NYC

    Hello All,

    i am currently living in queens in NYC.
    i am looking for short week end getaways around NYC.
    have heard pocono mountains are good and also delware water gap.
    any other such places in about 1 hour drive from NYC?

    The Kingston area has a lot of do. YOu can take a boat on the Hudson which is very very good. Also you can visit the old mansioins along the Hudson that are now museums. Little further north in Woodstock are Tibetan places and lots of little shops. They have lot of Asian philosophy students in the area so lots of India related stuff (they even have a Sri Aurobindo shop). Go up the mountain and see the Tibetan temple there. Lots of places to eat including vegetarian. This area is very easy to get to from NYC...just go up the thruway. As to exactly an hour, can't tell you if/how much longer than 1 hour it is.

    Also don't forget in that area to visit West Point (US military academy).
