very true Sathya..preventive measures are the most important . In spite of it if we fall sick i do try to find out some vaidhiyam that I can do myself and go the doc only as a last resort.
but i find the young mothers at least here really paranoid ..so many restrictions for the kids..dont go out in the sun rain pool etc etc..where will the child go then?:)

maybe like compulsory military service imposed by some counties we should have a compulsory one year devoted to community service before getting any degree.. then there would be some change in the village hygiene...a wishful thought,no?

your post reminded me of a joke..like all paatis my paati also used to be an expert in home remedies..so once i jokingly told her you are the first doctor in our house and she joked appadina enakku oru management degree iyum thaayen and then went on to say about the way she worked to bring up the family.really kudos to our mothers and grandmoms.:)

    dear kamalji

    thank god HE makes
    the likes of Dr.Bhutani's too

    theres a doctor down south
    tamilnadu
where he charges just a Re.1
    and gives simple prescriptions
    that also include kitchen medicines

    and about the cholesterol episode
    more stories abound
the good ones and bad ones
like good bhooth and bad ones?
    a change in lifestyle
    staying close to nature
and save on educated quacks too...!!

    dear vimala

    maybe they should teach
    in local languages too
    we consulted some compounderstoo
    who were even more popular
    than the doctors

    talking about charges
    they admit patients
    sometimes for simple indigestion
    heavy cough cold
put them on bottles and bottles
    of saline
    the nurse/attendent asks you
    are you covered under insurance
    (MNCs cover their staff...!!)
and if your answer is yes
then you stay for more than a week...!!!

    thanks for stepping in

    dear mindi

so you a kaivaithyam paatti too
    ahaha about mothers being anxious
    about kids....they are scared
about the huge doctor bills too...??

    about villages and hygiene
the politicians should act a little
    responsible and provide
with better sanitation roads and water
    and villagers be more alert
    and resort to proper eating
    and staying fit...

give your paatti a degree ya...
why not??... they deserve it more
    than we do

    Dear Sathya,
Glad to see you here after a pass with your unfailing vigour and wit. Milagu kashayam for cold and inji sorasam for indigestion and the famous deepavali legium after having a treat of all the oily savouries and sweets with ghee used to set right the ailments. Now for each and every small discomfort people run to the doctor. Popping the pills bought across the counter also has become the rule of the day.
Jokes apart, the new proposal of 3 year degree course is not a new invention of our government. Like the diploma courses in engineering in the polytecnics, previously we had three year diploma course in medicine and at the end of the course the LMP licensed medical practitioner certificate was issued. Those doctors were also good and some of them had earned name and fame.

It is a good idea if meritorius candidates who are willing to serve at villages are selected from villages.
    Love,
    PS

    dear pushpa

    ya ...long time no see...
    life goes on...
    and perhaps there are
    tendrils in the wine swaying...

    previously yes there were
    LMPs ...some are still around
    they also issued certificates
    and they were also Dr.
    those who practiced alternate medicine
it was there just for the asking
you just have to apply and give
proof of practice and you get a certificate
but now this is not to be...

    thank you for stepping in
