I felt the same way what you have mentioned each and every word. I want to be a better parent to my offspring than my parents. I recollected those emotional memories and tried to implement, but never worked most of the times. Then I realised nothing is in my control. I do my duty as Gita said and leave the result to the divine.

I dont think it is exception. I was talking in context of who is a "good human being"-

I mean being kind and empathetic and honest. Rather, I think it is suffering that teaches empathy. We cannot do any broad generalisation that those children who suffered

or war or rape , have less chance to grow up into a good human being. Mostly, it is the vulnerable children from poor families who are more likely to suffer these things .We should not do broad generalisation that somehow they have less chance to grow up into a good human being.

(I think, it is suffering that teaches empathy should be the norm but unfortunately, it is not. It teaches vendetta. It is also not true that all children who faced sufferings in their childhood turn rogue in their latter life. But then, there are exceptions. A look into the childhood of the people in jail shows that most of them came from poor families and lacked basic amenities. A look into the number of teens in the reform homes indicates that. The reason is simple, lack of good upbringing and mentoring.)

I agree with rest of your post- yes, "success in proffession" is another matter- definitely upbringing and mentoring plays the biggest role in being successful in life. Infact a good human being need not necessarily be very successful in life.

Try what we may, our past good or bad, lives with us. We may not be very possessive/obsessive of it but it still lingers.
As parents, we did everything in our control to give a better life to our children and in some cases become what we wished but could not. It was a duty. At the same time, we can not blame our parents for something we lacked because they too had some limitations, unless otherwise proved.
At the same time, our past has influenced a lot in whatever we are today. So, we cannot forget or wish it away.
