Hi all, Am visiting chennai in Sept and prefers to do some shopping, mainly: 1) Sarees - Mysore Silk / Tussar Silk/cotton / linen and etc 2) Lehengga 3) readymade suits / tops 4) Accessories I will be staying near ayanawaram / purasaiwakkam...Need suggestion of textile and taylor shops around the area. Will parry's corner will be good place to buy accessories? Thanks for the suggestions.
Purasawalkam high road is textile kingdom and there are good restaurants. It is few kilometers from new Avadi road at Kilpauk gardens intersection. Sarees including silk and designer wears available at reasonable price in huge shopping malls that are equipped with central cooling. One can combine shopping lunching . For buying accessories too it is good. There is a huge temple Gangadhar which are reasonably crowded in the breezy evenings. As this place is only few kilometers away from shores bay of Bengal, one finds commercial centre on this Purasawalkam high road is cool. The hotel for snacks near Gangadharan temple serves real fresh South Indian & North Indian snacks. They have mezzanine AC hall for dinning reachable by wrought iron spiral staircase. (no lift) Wish you happy shopping.
Hi Sir, Thanks for the information. Thats very helpful. It looks like I could do the shopping here without going to T Nagar or parrys corner. Do you have any suggestion of hotels where it located near the purasalwalkam high road whereby I can just walk around for shopping? Any suggestions / tips will be helpful. Thanks for the assistance.
For shopping for the items you had mentioned, there is need to go to t nagar or parrys corner. Purasarawalkam high road is second to none and under one umbrella one can do all kinds of shopping here. Saravana stores is a huge shopping complex. As for staying in a star hotel, there are excellent choices. Google might help you. I have no personal experience of these hotels. But the ot is a good idea to stay proximity to shopping area. T nagar and parrys vulnerable spots for losing wallets and other handable items buy thieves and cheats. For example the thangamaligai at Usman road is safe only upto 12noon. The shop used to be very crowded mixed with roving eyes of the bag lifters. Wish you happy holidays and shopping in Chennai.
You can find lots of good hotels in purasai area, Doveton is bit old but I think they rennovated it now. You get good veg food in Doveton cafe and in Kilapuk area Kannappa fast food is very famous for thattu idli ..(omg.. trip down memory lane..) sorry for side tracking but very small but crowded place..order it thru swiggy or zomato if you are staying in hotel. Like Thyagarajan Sir said every thing is available in Purasai and kilpauk area. If you need to go to parlour apart from shopping go to Dollys in Bhaiya complex and for hair go to the Assamese lady in the last corner seat and she is the best and there forever. Don't miss Gangatheswarar temple visit. It 's so beautiful. You have lots of options for shopping, Imitation jewlleries(esp near tank) etc and I think couple of decent hotels on perambur barrocks or other side of the main road (dinamalar office road) forgot the name. Finally you won't regret staying in pursaiwalkam area..oh oh oh ..by the way if possible pl try pitaschio cake in Mcrennet in Purasaiwalkam.
I remembered the road it's poonamallee high road ..Abu palace, Breeze, Raddisson hotels their Buffets are very good. Periyamedu predominantly Muslim area ,you get very yummy Biriyanis and quality leather goods. You get fresh fruits near purasai tank area.
@mala76 Beware and aware of bag lifters women girls included in rush and push not only in street but inside pothys, thanga maligai, textile shops and eateries. They look like customers try to befriend and dupe. Regards. All the best. God bless
